Deuxi\u00e8me adaptation cin\u00e9matographique de la pi\u00e8ce de th\u00e9\u00e2tre \u00ab The Kitchen \u00bb sign\u00e9e Arnold Wesker, \u00ab The Grill \u00bb (ou \u00ab La Cocina \u00bb en version originale) est un savoureux m\u00e9lange de belles \u00e9motions, de bonnes id\u00e9es et de sacr\u00e9s d\u00e9lires !<\/p><p>L\u2019intrigue nous ouvre les coulisses impr\u00e9visibles d\u2019un grand restaurant new-yorkais, o\u00f9 tout semble \u00e0 la fois chaotique et millim\u00e9tr\u00e9. Dans la cuisine, l\u2019extraverti et hyperactif Pedro amuse la galerie mais n\u2019oublie pas pour autant l\u2019amour qu\u2019il porte \u00e0 sa <em>g\u00fcerita<\/em> Julia, l\u2019une des nombreuses serveuses constamment en mouvement. Mais une histoire de vol dans les caisses de la salle \u2013 d\u2019un montant de plus de 800 dollars \u2013 pourrait bien faire tout vriller, aux \u00e9chelles individuelle comme collective\u2026<\/p><p>Souvent fr\u00e9n\u00e9tique (mais pas que !), \u00ab La Cocina \u00bb fourmille d\u2019excellents \u00e9l\u00e9ments filmiques qui alimentent la vaste fresque qu\u2019est ce long-m\u00e9trage. Cin\u00e9matographiquement parlant, plusieurs s\u00e9quences marquent, \u00e0 commencer par cet \u00e9poustouflant et dynamique plan-s\u00e9quence aux dizaines de personnages et qui fait inlassablement des allers-retours entre la cuisine et la salle pendant le service ; notons aussi ce monologue-r\u00e9cit qui forme une cassure de rythme stup\u00e9fiante ! La photographie ne l\u00e9sine pas non plus sur les contrastes et l\u2019\u00e9talonnage afin de mieux mettre en valeur (ou pas) certains d\u00e9tails (culinaires ou autres) ; et le film nous surprend m\u00eame \u00e0 inclure deux sc\u00e8nes en cama\u00efeu, l\u2019une bleu cobalt et l\u2019autre vert pixel \u2013 on ne pr\u00e9cisera pas quand, bien s\u00fbr.<\/p><p>Dense narrativement et th\u00e9matiquement parlant, \u00ab The Grill \u00bb forme un quasi-huis-clos au sc\u00e9nario se d\u00e9roulant sur une seule journ\u00e9e et dont les sujets principaux sont l\u2019immigration et le multiculturalisme qui en d\u00e9coule dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tats-unienne. Mais avec de consid\u00e9rables changements de registres et plusieurs sous-moments, ces th\u00e8mes sont tant\u00f4t sources de gags, tant\u00f4t sources de tensions, tant\u00f4t sources de drames. Et puis \u00ab La Cocina \u00bb ne se cantonne pas uniquement \u00e0 cette question, puisque sont aussi \u00e9voqu\u00e9es les notions de d\u00e9racinement, d\u2019exploitation par le travail et d\u2019amour sans fronti\u00e8res. Brillamment port\u00e9e par Ra\u00fal Briones dans le r\u00f4le de Pedro, l\u2019histoire demeure celle de ce microcosme qu\u2019est ce restaurant, avec tous ces originaires des quatre coins du monde, qui refl\u00e8te en grande partie l\u2019\u00ab Am\u00e9rique \u00bb contemporaine, pleine de r\u00eaves et de d\u00e9sespoirs, mais inarr\u00eatable. Despite its black and white, this feature film directed by Alonso Ruizpalacias is prodigiously colorful! The second film adaptation of Arnold Wesker&rsquo;s play \u201cThe Kitchen\u201d, \u201cThe Grill\u201d (or \u201cLa Cocina\u201d in the original version) is a delicious mix of emotion, good ideas and a whole lot of fun!<\/p><p>The plot takes us on an unpredictable behind-the-scenes tour of a top New York restaurant, where everything seems both chaotic and precise. In the kitchen, the extrovert and hyperactive Pedro entertains but never forgets his love for his <em>g\u00fcerita<\/em> Julia, one of the many waitresses constantly on the move. But a case of theft from the restaurant&rsquo;s cash register \u2013 of over $800 \u2013 could very well turn everything upside down, both individually and collectively&#8230;<\/p><p>Often frantic (but not exclusively!), \u201cLa Cocina\u201d is packed with excellent cinematic elements that feed into the vast tale that is this feature. Cinematographically speaking, several sequences stand out, starting with this breathtaking, dynamic oner with dozens of characters, which tirelessly moves back and forth between the kitchen and the dining room during the service; also noteworthy is this monologue-narration, which creates a breathtaking rhythmic break! The photography also skillfully uses contrasts and color grading to highlight (or not) certain details (culinary or otherwise); and the film even surprises us by including two monochrome scenes, one cobalt blue and the other pixel green \u2013 we won&rsquo;t say when, of course.<\/p><p>Narratively and thematically dense, \u201cThe Grill\u201d is an almost closed-door drama set in a single day, focusing on immigration and the resulting multiculturalism in US society. But with considerable changes of register and several substories, these themes are sometimes a source of gags, sometimes a source of tension, sometimes a source of drama. And \u201cLa Cocina\u201d doesn&rsquo;t confine itself to this question alone, as it also deals with the notions of uprootedness, labor exploitation and love without borders. Brilliantly portrayed by Ra\u00fal Briones in the role of Pedro, the story remains that of the microcosm of this restaurant, with all its people from the four corners of the globe, reflecting much of contemporary \u201cAmerica\u201d, full of dreams and despair, but unstoppable. Finally, it&rsquo;s worth noting that the elusive figure of Estela, who opens and closes the film, stands alone as a symbol, as I hope you&rsquo;ll discover when you watch this gem.<\/p><p>Axel Chevalier<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>ESPA\u00d1OL<\/strong><\/p><p>\u00a1Guau, qu\u00e9 pel\u00edcula! A pesar de su blanco y negro, \u00a1este largometraje dirigido por Alonso Ruizpalacias es prodigiosamente colorista! La segunda adaptaci\u00f3n cinematogr\u00e1fica de la obra de Arnold Wesker \u00abThe Kitchen\u00bb, \u00abThe Grill\u00bb (o \u00abLa Cocina\u00bb en la versi\u00f3n original) es una deliciosa mezcla de grandes emociones, buenas ideas y \u00a1mucha diversi\u00f3n!<\/p><p>La trama nos lleva entre los bastidores de un gran restaurante neoyorquino, donde todo parece a la vez ca\u00f3tico y meticuloso. En la cocina, el extrovertido e hiperactivo Pedro entretiene pero nunca olvida su amor por su g\u00fcerita Julia, una de las muchas camareras en constante movimiento. Pero un caso de robo en la caja del restaurante -por valor de m\u00e1s de 800 d\u00f3lares- podr\u00eda ponerlo todo patas arriba, tanto individual como colectivamente&#8230;<\/p><p>A menudo fren\u00e9tica (\u00a1pero no exclusivamente!), \u00abLa Cocina\u00bb est\u00e1 repleta de excelentes elementos cinematogr\u00e1ficos que alimentan el vasto relato que es este largometraje. Cinematogr\u00e1ficamente hablando, destacan varias secuencias, empezando por este impresionante y din\u00e1mico oner con docenas de personajes, que va y viene incansablemente entre la cocina y el comedor durante el servicio; tambi\u00e9n es digno de menci\u00f3n este mon\u00f3logo-narraci\u00f3n, \u00a1que crea una ruptura r\u00edtmica impresionante! La fotograf\u00eda tambi\u00e9n utiliza h\u00e1bilmente los contrastes y la gradaci\u00f3n del color para resaltar (o no) ciertos detalles (culinarios o no); y la pel\u00edcula incluso nos sorprende al incluir dos escenas monocromas, una azul cobalto y otra verde p\u00edxel (no diremos cu\u00e1ndo, por supuesto).<\/p><p>Narrativa y tem\u00e1ticamente densa, \u00abThe Grill\u00bb es un drama casi a puerta cerrada que transcurre en un solo d\u00eda, centrado en la inmigraci\u00f3n y el multiculturalismo resultante en la sociedad estadounidense. Pero con considerables cambios de registro y varias subhistorias, estos temas son a veces fuente de gags, a veces fuente de tensi\u00f3n, a veces fuente de drama. Y \u00abLa Cocina\u00bb no se limita s\u00f3lo a esta cuesti\u00f3n, ya que tambi\u00e9n aborda las nociones de desarraigo, explotaci\u00f3n laboral y amor sin fronteras. Brillantemente retratada por Ra\u00fal Briones en el papel de Pedro, la historia sigue siendo la del microcosmos de este restaurante, con toda su gente procedente de los cuatro puntos cardinales, reflejo de gran parte de la \u00abAm\u00e9rica\u00bb contempor\u00e1nea, llena de sue\u00f1os y desesperanza, pero imparable. Por \u00faltimo, cabe se\u00f1alar que la esquiva figura de Estela, que abre y cierra la pel\u00edcula, se erige por s\u00ed sola como un s\u00edmbolo, como espero que descubran cuando vean esta joya.<\/p><p>Axel
