C\u2019est l\u2019id\u00e9e r\u00e9volutionnaire que d\u00e9veloppe Karsh, riche entrepreneur qui ne se remet pas de la disparition de sa femme. Usant d\u2019une technologie perfectionn\u00e9e, l\u2019homme d\u2019affaires met au point des linceuls capables de retransmettre avec une pr\u00e9cision troublante les images de la lente d\u00e9composition des personnes d\u00e9funtes et enterr\u00e9es. Mais la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de Karsh ne fait pas l\u2019unanimit\u00e9, de sorte que plusieurs de ses tombes sont un jour profan\u00e9es, y compris celle de feu son \u00e9pouse Becca.<\/p><p>Thriller d\u00e9routant, lugubre et \u00e0 la limite du sordide, \u00ab Les Linceuls \u00bb s\u2019inscrit dans la veine du cin\u00e9ma de David Cronenberg, troublant de par la froide pr\u00e9cision de son style, l\u2019interrogation extr\u00eame d\u2019angoisses visc\u00e9ralement humaines et l\u2019aspect tr\u00e8s intellectuel de sa trame. Compos\u00e9 de nombreuses sc\u00e8nes et s\u00e9quences nocturnes o\u00f9 la lumi\u00e8re est tamis\u00e9e, att\u00e9nu\u00e9e voire faiblarde, le film para\u00eet noctambule, aussi parce que son ton et son fond sont cr\u00e9pusculaires.<\/p><p>Avec un titre aussi \u00e9vocateur, \u00ab Les Linceuls \u00bb traite \u00e9videmment de la question du deuil \u00e0 travers le personnage tourment\u00e9 de Karsh (Vincent Cassel) qui cauchemarde de la d\u00e9liquescence charnelle de Becca (Diane Kruger) avant et apr\u00e8s la mort de cette derni\u00e8re. Ne parvenant pas \u00e0 sortir de ce mauvais r\u00eave qui d\u00e9teint sur sa vie, Karsh sombre dans une enqu\u00eate qui le rend parano\u00efaque vis-\u00e0-vis de ses relations comme vis-\u00e0-vis du monde. Et si les fauteurs de trouble \u00e9taient \u00e0 la solde d\u2019une organisation radicale ou d\u2019un gouvernement ? Et si Terry (s\u0153ur de Becca, aussi incarn\u00e9e par Diane Kruger) et Maury (ex-beau-fr\u00e8re de Karsh, interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 par Guy Pearce) \u00e9taient dans le coup ? Et si Becca avait encore un message \u00e0 transmettre ?<\/p><p>Mais les investigations abstraites et m\u00e9taphysiques de Karsh se m\u00ealent \u00e0 son espoir jaloux et inassouvi de retrouver l\u2019amour et le corps parfaits de Becca, alors m\u00eame que ses entourages \u2013 y compris \u00e0 travers une IA \u2013 d\u00e9boussolent fondamentalement l\u2019entrepreneur. That&rsquo;s the revolutionary idea of Karsh, a wealthy entrepreneur who can&rsquo;t get over the disappearance of his wife. Using sophisticated technology, the businessman is developing shrouds capable of transmitting images of the slow decomposition of deceased and buried people with disturbing precision. But Karsh&rsquo;s company does not meet with unanimous approval, and several of his graves are desecrated one day, including that of his late wife Becca.<\/p><p>\u201cThe Shrouds\u201d is a disturbing, gloomy thriller bordering on the downright sordid, right in line with David Cronenberg&rsquo;s cinema, unsettling for the cold precision of its style, the extreme questioning of viscerally human anxieties and the highly intellectual aspect of its plot. With its many nocturnal scenes and sequences, in which the light is subdued, dimmed or even faint, the film seems nocturnal, also because its tone and background are all twilight.<\/p><p>With such a telling title, \u201cThe Shrouds\u201d obviously deals with the question of mourning through the tormented character of Karsh (Vincent Cassel), who has nightmares of Becca&rsquo;s (Diane Kruger) carnal decay before and after her death. Unable to shake off this bad dream, which rubs off on his life, Karsh sinks into an investigation that makes him paranoid about his relationships and the world. What if the troublemakers were working for a radical organization or a government? What if Terry (Becca&rsquo;s sister, also played by Diane Kruger) and Maury (Karsh&rsquo;s ex-brother-in-law, played by Guy Pearce) were in on it? What if Becca still had a message to deliver?<\/p><p>But Karsh&rsquo;s abstract, metaphysical investigations are intertwined with his jealous, unfulfilled hope of regaining Becca&rsquo;s perfect love and body, even as his surroundings \u2013 including through an AI \u2013 fundamentally unsettle the entrepreneur. In short, \u201cThe Shrouds\u201d is a complex movie, difficult to follow at times, but bound to raise a few questions.<\/p><p>Axel
