La photographie du chef op\u00e9rateur Sean Price Williams (r\u00e9alisateur de \u00ab\u00a0The Sweet East\u00a0\u00bb) joue des sources de lumi\u00e8res naturelles (bougies, torches, rayons de soleil) pour composer de magnifiques plans \u2013 y compris de nuit \u2013 semblables \u00e0 des tableaux (\u00e0 l\u2019image du poster fran\u00e7ais \u00e0 la Brueghel). Tourn\u00e9 en pellicule sur du Super 16 en plein d\u00e9cors sauvages du Glen Lonan, sur les berges du Loch Nell, \u00ab\u00a0Harvest\u00a0\u00bb s\u2019impose comme un film sensoriel et tactile qui scintille de couleurs et nous plonge dans le v\u00e9cu du lieu et de ses personnages.<\/p><p>Le film saisit au plus pr\u00e8s la brutalit\u00e9 du monde paysan du XVI-XVII<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle pendant la moisson \u00e9cossaise, et enregistre la lente agonie d\u2019un village anonyme condamn\u00e9 par l\u2019inexorable marche du progr\u00e8s. C\u2019est un sc\u00e9nario impr\u00e9visible racont\u00e9 \u00e0 travers le point de vue d\u2019un marginal (Caleb Landry-Jones, fascinant), ni villageois ni seigneur qui fait office de narrateur impuissant, de t\u00e9moin \u00e0 la fois innocent et l\u00e2che. Sa position d\u2019entre-deux se manifeste jusque dans la composition des plans, o\u00f9 il est syst\u00e9matiquement en bordure de groupe, voire seul \u00e0 l\u2019image des rituels auquel il proc\u00e8de dans son coin au d\u00e9but et \u00e0 la fin du film. Master Kent (Harry Melling) r\u00e8gne avec bienveillance sur cette communaut\u00e9 recluse en osmose avec la nature dont la vie quotidienne et l\u2019harmonie locale va se d\u00e9grader lorsque surgit un homme venu d\u2019ailleurs (peau noire, longue barbe) qui inqui\u00e8te. D\u00e9cid\u00e9e par une s\u00e9rie de lois dans l\u2019Angleterre des Tudors sous la pression de puissants propri\u00e9taires terriens, l\u2019enclosure consiste \u00e0 clore les champs \u00e0 l\u2019aide de murets (\u00e0 l\u2019image du dernier plan symbolique) ou de haies pour d\u00e9velopper l\u2019\u00e9levage exclusif des moutons. C\u2019est un processus qui a entra\u00een\u00e9 la disparition des communs, ces terres collectives g\u00e9r\u00e9es par une communaut\u00e9 villageoise. Or, sans acc\u00e8s \u00e0 ces communs, les paysans sont contraints de quitter leur campagne pour rejoindre la ville et former un nouveau r\u00e9servoir de main d\u2019\u0153uvre bon march\u00e9. Karl Marx consid\u00e8re ainsi ce bouleversement g\u00e9ographique, \u00e9conomique et juridique comme un point de d\u00e9part du capitalisme. Et toute la violence de ce processus historique se condense alors dans un outil loin d\u2019\u00eatre purement artistique, la carte, synonyme de bascule vers un contr\u00f4le du paysage et de ceux qui l\u2019habitent. \u00ab\u00a0Harvest\u00a0\u00bb explore ainsi le poids et le sens des cartes dans ses contrastes g\u00e9om\u00e9triques entre une repr\u00e9sentation du terrain qu\u2019on y voit \u00e0 une r\u00e9duction des \u00e9l\u00e9ments humains et naturels pour y quadriller des proportions pr\u00e9d\u00e9finies.<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0Harvest\u00a0\u00bb est ainsi un film sur l\u2019une des formes de naissance du capitalisme dans son exploration de deux visions irr\u00e9conciliables\u00a0: l\u2019une collective, l\u2019autre individualiste. Le film construit alors sa critique \u00e0 travers une jeu de regards \u2013 souvent film\u00e9 en tr\u00e8s gros plans \u2013 tant\u00f4t accusateurs, tant\u00f4t tendres, coupables ou r\u00e9sign\u00e9s, et la mise en sc\u00e8ne du contraste entre deux espaces\u00a0: le village (satur\u00e9 de couleurs et de sons) et le manoir (froid et silencieux). La r\u00e9alisatrice grecque Athin\u00e1-Rach\u00e9l Tsang\u00e1ri signe une fresque originale hautement m\u00e9taphorique \u2013 il aura ici fallu sept jours, non pas pour cr\u00e9er un monde, mais pour l\u2019an\u00e9antir \u2013 et plein de dissonances \u2013 notamment dans la langue avec un phras\u00e9 particulier et quelques idiomes volontairement anachroniques. The cinematography by Sean Price Williams (director of \u201cThe Sweet East\u201d) uses natural light sources (candles, torches, sunlight) to capture magnificent, painting-like shots \u2013 even at night (just like the French poster a la Brueghel suggests). Shot on Super 16 film in the wilds of Glen Lonan, on the shores of Loch Nell, \u201cHarvest\u201d is a sensory, tactile film that sparkles with color and brings us right into the experience of the land and its characters.<\/p><p>The film captures the brutality of the 16<sup>th<\/sup>-17<sup>th<\/sup> century peasant world during the Scottish harvest, and records the slow agony of a nameless village doomed by the relentless march of progress. It&rsquo;s an unpredictable scenario told through the point of view of an outsider (Caleb Landry-Jones, fascinating), neither villager nor lord, who acts as a powerless narrator, a witness both innocent and cowardly. His in-between position is even apparent in the composition of the shots, where he is systematically on the edge of the group, or even alone, as in the rituals he performs on his own at the beginning and end of the film. Master Kent (Harry Melling) benevolently reigns over this remote community in osmosis with nature, whose daily life and local harmony are about to erode when a man from elsewhere (dark skin, long beard) arrives and raises concern. Enclosure, enacted by a series of laws in Tudor England under pressure from powerful landowners, saw fields enclosed by low walls (as seen in the final, symbolic shot) or hedges, in order to develop the exclusive breeding of sheep. It&rsquo;s a process that has led to the disappearance of the common lands, those collective lands managed by a village community. Without access to these common lands, peasants were forced to leave the countryside for the city, where they formed a new supply of cheap labor. Karl Marx then saw this geographical, economic and legal upheaval as a starting point for capitalism. And all the violence of this historical process is brought together in a tool that is far from purely artistic: the map, synonymous with a shift towards control of the landscape and those who inhabit it. \u201cHarvest\u201d thus explores the weight and significance of maps in its geometric contrasts between a representation of the terrain as it is seen and a reduction of human and natural elements to grids of predefined ratios.<\/p><p>\u201cHarvest\u201d is therefore a film about one of the key roots of capitalism, in its exploration of two irreconcilable visions: one collective, the other individualistic. The film builds its argument through a set of glances \u2013 often shot in tight close-ups \u2013 that are sometimes blaming, sometimes tender, guilty or resigned, and the contrast between two spaces: the village (saturated with color and sound) and the manor house (cold and silent). Greek director Athin\u00e1-Rach\u00e9l Tsang\u00e1ri has created a very original, highly metaphorical fable \u2013 here, it took seven days, not to create a world, but to wipe it out \u2013 and full of dissonances \u2013 including in the language, with its distinctive phrasing and deliberately anachronistic terms. This is a philosophical tale that is both historical and non-temporal (by not integrating any elements of context), painting a picture of a community through its folklore, its daily life, and the way
