Alors qu\u2019en 2003, l\u2019Ukraine est l\u2019Eden europ\u00e9en du march\u00e9 de la prostitution, de jeunes militantes d\u00e9cident d\u2019utiliser leur corps qui est regard\u00e9 et convoit\u00e9 comme une arme \u00e0 des fins politiques. Et si leur r\u00e9orientation de l\u2019utilisation du corps f\u00e9minin a finalement \u00e9t\u00e9 assez mal comprise \u00e0 l\u2019international, l\u2019un des plus marquants nouveaux mouvements de libert\u00e9 du XXI<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle est n\u00e9anmoins n\u00e9 et n\u2019a pas tard\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9passer les fronti\u00e8res de son berceau ukrainien \u2026<\/p><p>Pour son second long-m\u00e9trage (apr\u00e8s le superbe \u00ab\u00a0Slalom\u00a0\u00bb), la r\u00e9alisatrice fran\u00e7aise Charl\u00e8ne Favier choisit le genre du biopic pour raconter l\u2019histoire de ce mouvement f\u00e9ministe, politique et artistique, \u00e0 travers le grand destin romanesque de l\u2019une de ses cr\u00e9atrices\u00a0: Oksana Chatchko. C\u2019est notamment \u00e0 elle que l\u2019on doit la mise en sc\u00e8ne tr\u00e8s th\u00e9\u00e2trale de leurs actions avec costumes, masques, couronnes, peintures, et le symbole des seins nus pour attirer l\u2019\u0153il sur leurs slogans et leur message. \u00ab\u00a0Oxana\u00a0\u00bb est ainsi un film qui rend hommage \u00e0 ce mouvement qui a repens\u00e9 le militantisme, et rend justice \u00e0 son h\u00e9ro\u00efne activiste, peintre et r\u00e9fugi\u00e9e politique pour qui le v\u00e9ritable art se trouve dans la R\u00e9volution.<\/p><p>C\u2019est une \u0153uvre militante sur la fin de l\u2019innocence \u00e0 travers la condition f\u00e9minine et le poids du patriarcat qui conjugue histoire intime et contexte politique \u00e0 travers le parcours d\u2019un groupe qui prend conscience de sa force id\u00e9ologique et la trajectoire d\u2019une artiste qui se laisse d\u00e9vorer par sa mission. C\u2019est en effet un biopic non-lin\u00e9aire d\u00e9structur\u00e9 avec une double chronologie qui nous plonge certes dans la construction et la philosophie de ce groupe de militantes ukrainiennes dans leurs combats pour les droits des femmes et les libert\u00e9s pour tous et contre les syst\u00e8mes politiques et sanitaires du pays ainsi que les dictateurs Poutine et Loukachenko. Mais le film nous plonge aussi en parall\u00e8le dans une journ\u00e9e d\u2019errance de son h\u00e9ro\u00efne \u00e0 Paris en 2018, devenue peintre exil\u00e9e qui peu \u00e0 peu s\u2019\u00e9vapore et se dissout en elle-m\u00eame. Deux temps, deux lieux, deux tons et dynamiques en contrepoint qui se croisent.<\/p><p>Si le film porte le nom de sa protagoniste, ce n\u2019est pas uniquement pour souligner sa dimension \u2018biopic\u2019, c\u2019est bien qu\u2019il cherche \u00e0 incarner dans son fond comme dans sa forme toutes les facettes de son h\u00e9ro\u00efne\u00a0: activiste politique, jeune \u00e2me ambivalente, et artiste peintre. Elle qui peignait dans sa jeunesse des ic\u00f4nes pour l\u2019\u00c9glise, se retrouve d\u00e8s lors \u00e0 son tour sublim\u00e9e en ic\u00f4ne envo\u00fbtante, complexe et myst\u00e9rieuse. De fait, c\u2019est un film tr\u00e8s pictural avec une image tr\u00e8s travaill\u00e9e de ses beaux plans \u00e0 son magnifique travail sur les couleurs, en passant par de superbes reconstitutions de tableaux. N\u00e9anmoins il aurait pu plus jouer sur la force de ses images (notamment lors de sc\u00e8nes de dialogues trop explicatifs ou didactiques dont la mise en image aurait probablement plus r\u00e9sonn\u00e9). Port\u00e9 par de jeunes actrices ukrainiennes talentueuses (dont le casting s\u2019est effectu\u00e9 en pleine guerre), \u00ab\u00a0Oxana\u00a0\u00bb est un film instructif et stylis\u00e9 mais qui p\u00e2tit d\u2019une structure ne rendant pas toute la force du r\u00e9cit \u00e0 cette ic\u00f4ne des temps modernes. In 2003, when Ukraine was Europe&rsquo;s Eden of the prostitution business, a group of young activists decided to use their coveted and highly sought-after bodies as weapons for political ends. And if their rethinking of the use of the female body was ultimately misunderstood internationally, one of the most striking new freedom movements of the 21st century was nonetheless born, and soon spread beyond the borders of its Ukrainian cradle&#8230;<\/p><p>For her second feature film (after the brilliant \u201cSlalom\u201d), French director Charl\u00e8ne Favier chooses the biopic genre to tell the story of this feminist, political and artistic movement, through the great romantic destiny of one of its creators: Oksana Chatchko. It was she who created the highly theatrical staging of their actions, with costumes, masks, crowns, paintings and the topless symbol to draw attention to their slogans and message. \u201cOxana\u201d is therefore a film that pays tribute to this movement that has reconceptualized activism, and honors its activist heroine, painter and political refugee, for whom true art is to be found in the Revolution.<\/p><p>This is a militant film about the end of innocence through the condition of women and the burden of patriarchy, blending intimate story and political history through the journey of a group that becomes aware of its ideological strength, and the path of an artist who allows herself to be devoured by her mission. It&rsquo;s a non-linear, deconstructed biopic with a double timeline that takes us into the building and philosophy of this group of Ukrainian activists as they fight for women&rsquo;s rights and freedoms for all, and against the country&rsquo;s political and health systems, as well as the dictators Putin and Lukashenko. But the film also takes us on a parallel journey of its heroine&rsquo;s wandering day in Paris in 2018, now an exiled painter who gradually evaporates and fades into herself. Two times, two places, two tones and two contrasting movements that cross paths.<\/p><p>If the film bears the name of its protagonist, it&rsquo;s not just to underline its biopic dimension, it&rsquo;s because it seeks to embody in both substance and style all the facets of its heroine: political activist, ambivalent young soul and painter. She, who in her youth painted icons for the Church, consequently finds herself sublimated into a bewitching, complex and mysterious icon. In fact, this is a very pictorial film, with a beautifully crafted image, from its beautiful shots to its gorgeous color work and superb painting recreations. Nevertheless, it could have made greater use of the power of its imagery (particularly during scenes with overly explanatory or didactic dialogues, which would probably have been more striking if depicted visually). Led by talented young Ukrainian actresses (who were cast in the midst of the war), \u201cOxana\u201d is an enlightening and stylized film, but that suffers from a structure that doesn&rsquo;t fully convey all the power of this modern-day icon&rsquo;s story. Yet we&rsquo;ll certainly take away its inspiring messages: &lsquo;you are fake&rsquo; (aimed both at a world that doesn&rsquo;t fight dictators enough, and at the movement&rsquo;s internal betrayal) and &lsquo;anyone can be a Femen&rsquo;!<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl
