C\u2019est ce que vous propose Lumon, le conglom\u00e9rat tentaculaire dont les personnages de \u00ab Severance \u00bb sont les employ\u00e9s. Apr\u00e8s une premi\u00e8re saison diablement intrigante, l\u2019excellente s\u00e9rie <em>Apple TV+<\/em> est revenue avec une deuxi\u00e8me saison tout aussi palpitante \u2013 et d\u2019ailleurs cette fois-ci bien plus mise en valeur sur le plan m\u00e9diatique.<\/p><p>\u00ab Severance \u00bb, c\u2019est d\u2019abord le nom d\u2019un concept : la dissociation (\u2018severance\u2019 en anglais, qui veut aussi dire en droit du travail \u00ab indemnit\u00e9 de fin de contrat lorsque celui-ci a \u00e9t\u00e9 rompu par l\u2019employeur \u00bb). Chez Lumon, un vaste sous-sol, quasiment herm\u00e9tique au monde ext\u00e9rieur, est enti\u00e8rement d\u00e9di\u00e9 aux employ\u00e9s dits \u00ab dissoci\u00e9s \u00bb spatialement et mentalement. C\u2019est l\u00e0 que travaillent notamment Mark S., Helly R., Irving B. et Dylan G., que les \u00ab exter \u00bb respectifs (c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire les personnalit\u00e9s hors Lumon) ont d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de confier \u00e0 l\u2019entreprise. Les membres de ce quatuor, donc, ne savent rien de leurs vies extra-professionnelles, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce que, dans la premi\u00e8re saison, ils investiguent et essayent de communiquer avec l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur sur l\u2019absurdit\u00e9 de leur condition \u2013 le tout alors que le Mark de l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur commence lui aussi \u00e0 se demander ce qui se trame vraiment chez Lumon. La deuxi\u00e8me saison reprend ainsi juste apr\u00e8s la r\u00e9ussite du quatuor \u00ab inter \u00bb \u00e0 d\u00e9livrer en substance leur message, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce qu\u2019ils soient interrompus.<\/p><p>D\u2019une minutie incomparable, \u00ab Severance \u00bb est une s\u00e9rie qui a d\u00e9finitivement le sens du d\u00e9tail. Qu\u2019ils soient visuels, sonores ou verbaux, les \u00e9pisodes fusent en effet d\u2019innombrables et m\u00e9ticuleux \u00e9l\u00e9ments qui enrichissent consid\u00e9rablement un sc\u00e9nario d\u00e9j\u00e0 brillamment ficel\u00e9. Un simple bip, une banale remarque ou une secondaire peinture peuvent ainsi tout faire basculer, de sorte qu\u2019il existe d\u00e9sormais une infinit\u00e9 de th\u00e9ories et contre-th\u00e9ories sur l\u2019univers de la s\u00e9rie, la psych\u00e9 des protagonistes, la morale des personnages principaux comme secondaires, et m\u00eame sur les parall\u00e8les entre Lumon et certaines entreprises bien r\u00e9elles.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19664 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Snapshot_3533.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Snapshot_3533.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Snapshot_3533-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Snapshot_3533-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Snapshot_3533-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>\u00ab Severance \u00bb est de fait particuli\u00e8rement soign\u00e9e (de fa\u00e7on troublante, m\u00eame) avec des images et des chronologies millim\u00e9tr\u00e9es. Les environnements \u2013 en particulier celui du sous-sol labyrinthique et d\u2019apparence immacul\u00e9 \u2013 en deviennent insens\u00e9s voire effrayants, \u00e0 l\u2019instar des <em>liminal spaces<\/em> dont s\u2019est inspir\u00e9e la s\u00e9rie. Les errances et qu\u00eates des personnages dans des lieux si renferm\u00e9s et\/ou immens\u00e9ment \u00e9tendus rehaussent ainsi le myst\u00e9rieux, l\u2019angoissant et parfois le cocasse de leurs situations. Faut-il dire de surcro\u00eet que nombreuses sont les sc\u00e8nes impromptues qui paraissent d\u00e9lirantes, notamment lorsqu\u2019il s\u2019agit de musique (notons par exemple la pr\u00e9sence \u00e9tonnante d\u2019un th\u00e9r\u00e9mine) ou de mythologie autour de la famille Eagan, fondatrice de Lumon (histoire parfois litt\u00e9ralement racont\u00e9e au coin du feu).<\/p><p>Mais si l\u2019aspect abstrait et r\u00e9p\u00e9titif de plusieurs sc\u00e8nes dans la premi\u00e8re saison \u00e9tait l\u00e0 pour souligner le c\u00f4t\u00e9 subtilement curieux et oppressant de l\u2019univers, celui-ci laisse en revanche place \u00e0 une explicitation et une multiplication de terrains, d\u2019enjeux et de sous-intrigues dans la deuxi\u00e8me saison. Les quatre \u00ab inter \u00bb principaux (ainsi que nous, public) savons d\u00e9sormais plus ou moins qui sont leurs \u00ab exter \u00bb, de sorte que nous en apprenons toujours plus sur les vies et les buts des protagonistes et de leurs doppelg\u00e4ngers modernes. Les sentiments, le pass\u00e9, les id\u00e9aux de chacune et chacun (Harmony et Gemma incluses, sans non plus oublier M. Cependant elle rappelle aussi que le th\u00e8me de la dissociation, sp\u00e9cialement dans le monde du travail mais pas uniquement, rev\u00eat des enjeux \u00e9thiques et philosophiques consid\u00e9rables : la religion et le fanatisme ins\u00e9r\u00e9s dans un monde entrepreneurial opaque ne sont ainsi jamais bien loin, tandis que les interrogations sur ce que constitue notre identit\u00e9 (via cette reprise innovante du mythe du double) forment un <em>leitmotiv<\/em> sans fond dans lequel tout le monde peut se perdre.<\/p><p>Avec enfin des sc\u00e8nes, des retournements voire des \u00e9pisodes entiers particuli\u00e8rement marquants techniquement comme sc\u00e9naristiquement (nous parlons ici de l\u2019\u00e9pisode 7 intitul\u00e9 \u00ab Chikhai Bardo \u00bb \u2013 et dont le titre est d\u2019ailleurs le nom d\u2019un concept bouddhiste que nous vous laisserons d\u00e9couvrir), \u00ab Severance \u00bb restera \u00e0 coup s\u00fbr dans les annales de ces s\u00e9ries incisives et exploratoires dont on ne demande qu\u2019une suite (heureusement confirm\u00e9e) \u00e0 d\u00e9crypter et \u00e0 d\u00e9vorer avec d\u00e9lectation.<\/p><p>Axel Chevalier<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42480e6 elementor-widget__width-initial exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"42480e6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><p>What if you severed your memories and your thoughts between your professional and personal lives? That&rsquo;s what Lumon, the sprawling conglomerate of which the characters in \u201cSeverance\u201d are employees, offers you. After a tremendously fascinating first season, the excellent <em>Apple TV+<\/em> series came back with a second just as thrilling \u2013 and this time with a much stronger media spotlight.<\/p><p>\u201cSeverance\u201d is first and foremost the name of a notion (meaning both a mental separation and in law \u201ca compensation given to an employee who is laid off or whose job has been terminated by the employer\u201d). At Lumon, a huge sub-floor, virtually hermetically sealed from the outside world, is entirely devoted to spatially and mentally \u2018severed\u2019 employees. This is where Mark S., Helly R., Irving B. and Dylan G. work, as their respective \u2018outies\u2019 (i.e., personalities outside Lumon) have decided to hand them over to the company. The members of this quartet, then, know nothing of their outside lives, until, in the first season, they investigate and try to communicate with the outside world about the absurdity of their condition \u2013 while at the same time, outside Mark is also beginning to wonder what&rsquo;s really going on at Lumon. The second season then picks up right after the \u2018innies\u2019 quartet have succeeded in delivering in essence their message, only to be stopped halfway through.<\/p><p>\u201cSeverance\u201d is a series with an unparalleled attention to detail. Whether visual, audio or spoken, the episodes are packed with countless carefully designed elements that add substantial value to an already brilliantly crafted storyline. A simple beep, a casual comment or a minor painting can turn everything upside down, so that there are now countless theories and counter-theories about the series&rsquo; universe, the protagonists&rsquo; psyche, the morals of the main and supporting characters, and even the parallels between Lumon and certain real-life companies.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19664 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Snapshot_3533.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Snapshot_3533.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Snapshot_3533-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Snapshot_3533-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Snapshot_3533-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>In fact, \u201cSeverance\u201d is particularly well-crafted (disturbingly so, in fact), with meticulously detailed images and timelines. The environments \u2013 particularly that of the maze-like, seemingly immaculate lower level \u2013 become insane, even frightening, like the liminal spaces that inspired the series. The characters&rsquo; wanderings and quests in such confined and\/or vastly expanded spaces enhance the mysterious, eerie and sometimes downright funny nature of their situations. It goes without saying that many of the unexpected scenes seem delirious, particularly when it comes to music (including the surprising use of a theremin) or the mythology surrounding the Eagan family, founders of Lumon (a story sometimes literally told by the fireside).<\/p><p>But if the abstract and repeated aspect of several scenes in the first season was there to emphasize the subtly curious and oppressive side of the universe, it gives way on the other hand to a clarification and multiplication of fields, stakes and subplots in the second season. The four main \u2018innies\u2019 (and we, the audience) now know more or less who their \u2018outies\u2019 are, so we learn more and more about the lives and goals of the protagonists and their modern-day doppelg\u00e4ngers. However, it also reminds us that the theme of severance, especially but not only in the workplace, has major ethical and philosophical implications: religion and fanaticism embedded in a shadowy corporate world are never far away, while questions about what makes up our identity (through this fresh take on the myth of the double) build a bottomless leitmotif in which everyone can get lost.<\/p><p>With scenes, twists and even whole episodes that are particularly striking both technically and narratively (for instance, episode 7 entitled \u201cChikhai Bardo\u201d \u2013 which refers to a Buddhist concept we&rsquo;ll leave you to explore), \u201cSeverance\u201d is sure to go down in history as one of those sharp, in-depth series whose (thankfully confirmed) sequel we can only hope
