nom donn\u00e9 par les Afghans au pays voisin, l\u2019Iran, terre de fraternit\u00e9 pour aujourd\u2019hui sept millions d\u2019Afghans, en situation r\u00e9guli\u00e8re ou non. Partageant souvent la m\u00eame culture et la m\u00eame langue (dari\/farsi), l\u2019Iran est en effet devenu la plus importante terre d\u2019exil pour la population afghane d\u00e8s 1980 suivant l\u2019invasion sovi\u00e9tique. Puis ces mobilit\u00e9s ont continu\u00e9 dans les ann\u00e9es 1990 lors de la guerre civile (1992-1996) et l\u2019installation des Taliban (1996-2001) avant de s\u2019intensifier \u00e0 nouveau depuis leur retour (2021). Les conditions de vie de ces r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s afghans en Iran se caract\u00e9risent par une grande pr\u00e9carit\u00e9 au niveau juridique, \u00e9conomique et social. Ils ne sont pas autoris\u00e9s \u00e0 poss\u00e9der de biens immobiliers ou de v\u00e9hicules, sont limit\u00e9s dans leurs activit\u00e9s professionnelles (souvent dans des m\u00e9tiers difficiles), et sont assign\u00e9s \u00e0 une province sans grande possibilit\u00e9 de voyager. Et m\u00eame si au fil du temps les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations ont appris \u00e0 contourner ces contraintes, la situation s\u2019est progressivement d\u00e9t\u00e9rior\u00e9e ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es dans l\u2019indiff\u00e9rence de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 iranienne (et de la communaut\u00e9 internationale).<\/p><p>Le but premier de ce film est donc avant tout de mettre en lumi\u00e8re la condition des r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s afghans en Iran \u2013 ce qui repr\u00e9sente une perspective rarement vue au cin\u00e9ma, pour ne pas dire unique. Mais \u00ab Le Pays de nos Fr\u00e8res \u00bb a aussi une port\u00e9e beaucoup plus universelle dans son exploration de l\u2019exp\u00e9rience des populations immigr\u00e9es. C\u2019est donc un film sur l\u2019immigration qui n\u2019est finalement pas si sp\u00e9cifique au contexte iranien \u2013 contrairement \u00e0 la majorit\u00e9 des films sociaux qui nous viennent de la R\u00e9publique persane \u2013 et dont l\u2019\u00e9tude des discriminations, de la maternit\u00e9, et de l\u2019alt\u00e9rit\u00e9 homme-femme r\u00e9sonnera pour de nombreuses communaut\u00e9s d\u00e9plac\u00e9es, en particulier dans une p\u00e9riode o\u00f9 le nationalisme gagne la plan\u00e8te enti\u00e8re.<\/p><p>Si au d\u00e9part, l\u2019intrigue semble nous embarquer dans une histoire d\u2019amour impossible entre familles d\u2019immigr\u00e9s (pour raisons religieuses et sociales), il n\u2019en est rien, l\u2019histoire basculant dans un tableau de l\u2019immigration afghane suivant trois r\u00e9cits qui se croisent et s\u2019entrem\u00ealent subtilement en m\u00ealant avec sinc\u00e9rit\u00e9 une histoire intime et politique. Le film se d\u00e9roule ainsi sur vingt ans depuis les lendemains du 11 septembre \u00e0 la guerre men\u00e9e contre Daech autour de protagonistes qui deviennent tour \u00e0 tour personnages principaux et secondaires. Cette construction en trois actes refl\u00e8te non seulement les trois vagues de migrations afghanes vers l\u2019Iran, mais \u00e9voque aussi trois dimensions de la question\u00a0: la r\u00e9pression arbitraire, l\u2019asservissement \u00e9conomique, et l\u2019exploitation politique. Si chaque chapitre est ainsi distinct, ils tissent n\u00e9anmoins un fil conducteur th\u00e9matique commun. Et c\u2019est bien ce qui relie ces trois histoires qui s\u2019impose comme le sujet central et s\u2019av\u00e8re bouleversant, car \u00ab\u00a0Au Pays de nos Fr\u00e8res\u00a0\u00bb est <em>in fine<\/em> un film sur l\u2019\u00e9cran de fum\u00e9e ou de normalit\u00e9 que s\u2019impose cette communaut\u00e9 d\u2019immigr\u00e9s que ce soit par honte envers sa propre famille, par peur de la perception des autres, ou plus dangereusement des cons\u00e9quences judiciaires pour les siens \u2013 qui font ainsi communaut\u00e9 en partageant ces sentiments int\u00e9rioris\u00e9s.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19351 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Snapshot_3401.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Snapshot_3401.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Snapshot_3401-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Snapshot_3401-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Snapshot_3401-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Les deux r\u00e9alisateurs Alireza Ghasemi &amp; Raha Amirfazli \u2013 d\u00e9sormais eux-m\u00eames exil\u00e9s (l\u2019une \u00e0 New-York et l\u2019autre \u00e0 Paris) car ne souhaitant pas soumettre leur film au bureau de la censure \u2013 signent ici un premier long-m\u00e9trage plein de nuances et de silences qui disent beaucoup sur une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 iranienne o\u00f9 il est n\u00e9cessaire de mentir. C\u2019est pourquoi l\u2019histoire n\u2019exprime pas tout frontalement. D\u2019une part le sujet est moins ce que les personnages ne s\u2019avouent pas que le fait qu\u2019ils n\u2019osent pas le faire, et d\u2019autre part cela permet aussi de jouer sur la puissante cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 de l\u2019inconscient du spectateur.<\/p><p>C\u2019est un magnifique film touchant \u2013 dont le dernier jour de tournage a d\u2019ailleurs co\u00efncid\u00e9 avec la mort de Mahsa Amini \u2013 qui fait doucement grimper l\u2019\u00e9motion avec une double progression narrative (entre la condition des r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s, et les secrets qu\u2019ils se doivent de garder et de cacher) qui s\u2019oppose dans la conclusion pour cr\u00e9er un effet d\u00e9vastateur. C\u2019est d\u2019ailleurs un film qui joue sur les oppositions de tons que ce soit dans les actions (lors d\u2019une f\u00eate), dans les d\u00e9cors (avec la cohabitation d\u2019un cadre bourgeois et d\u2019une situation d\u2019extr\u00eame pr\u00e9carit\u00e9), ou dans les images (des plaines hivernales aux teintes printani\u00e8res). Et c\u2019est avant tout une \u00e9tude de personnages, d\u00e9nu\u00e9e de sensationnalisme, qui respecte leur dignit\u00e9 et port\u00e9e par de remarquables performances de Bashir Nikzad, Mohammed Hosseini et d\u2019une impressionnante Hamideh Jafari qui ont tous trois nourri ces r\u00f4les de leurs propres parcours.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><p>Rapha\u00ebl Sallenave<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42480e6 elementor-widget__width-initial exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"42480e6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><p>This poetic title refers to the name given by Afghans to the neighboring country of Iran, a land of fraternity for seven million Afghans, both legal and illegal. Often sharing the same culture and language (Dari\/Farsi), Iran became the most important land of exile for the Afghan population as early as 1980, following the Soviet invasion. This migration continued in the 1990s during the civil war (1992-1996) and the Taliban&rsquo;s takeover (1996-2001), before increasing again since their return (2021). The living conditions of these Afghan refugees in Iran are highly precarious in legal, economic and social matters. They are not allowed to own property or vehicles, are restricted in their professional activities (often in difficult jobs), and are assigned to a province with little opportunity to travel. And even though the generations have learned to get around these constraints over time, the situation has gradually deteriorated in recent years, to the indifference of Iranian society (and the international community).<\/p><p>The film&rsquo;s primary goal is therefore to shed light on the condition of Afghan refugees in Iran \u2013 a dimension rarely seen in cinema, if not never before. But \u201cIn the Land of Brothers\u201d also has a much more universal scope in its exploration of the immigrant experience. It is therefore a film about immigration that is not that specific to the Iranian environment \u2013 unlike most social films that hail from the Persian Republic \u2013 and whose study of discrimination, motherhood, and male-female alterity will resonate with many displaced communities, particularly at a time when nationalism is spreading across the globe.<\/p><p>At first, the plot seems to take us into a story of impossible love between immigrant families (for religious and social reasons), but this is far different, as the story shifts to a panorama of Afghan immigration, following three narratives that subtly intersect and intertwine in a heartfelt blend of intimacy and political issues. The film then unfolds over twenty years, from the aftermath of 9\/11 to the war waged against ISIS, around protagonists who alternately turn into main or supporting roles. This three-act structure not only mirrors the three waves of Afghan migration to Iran, but also suggests three dimensions of the issue: systematic repression, economic subjugation and political manipulation. While each chapter is thus self-contained, they nevertheless weave a common thematic thread. That&rsquo;s why the story doesn&rsquo;t deal with everything head-on. On the one hand, the point is less what the characters don&rsquo;t admit to each other than the fact that they don&rsquo;t dare to, and on the other, it also lets us tap into the powerful creativity of our subconscious.<\/p><p>This is a beautiful, touching film \u2013 whose last day of shooting actually coincided with Mahsa Amini&rsquo;s death \u2013 that slowly builds up the emotion with a double narrative development (between the condition of the refugees, and the secrets they have to keep and hide) that collides in the conclusion to devastating effect. It&rsquo;s also a film that draws on tonal contrasts, whether it is in the activities (during a party), in the settings (with the mixing of a bourgeois set and a highly precarious life), or in the visuals (from wintry plains to springtime hues). And above all, it&rsquo;s a character study, devoid of sensationalism, that respects the dignity of its characters, and is driven by outstanding performances from Bashir Nikzad, Mohammed Hosseini and a truly impressive Hamideh Jafari, all of whom have nurtured these roles from their own experiences.<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl
