Il doit annoncer la nouvelle aux familles et faire l\u2019enqu\u00eate : il est ainsi le t\u00e9moin historique du spectateur qui lui \u00e9nonce les faits et lui en montre la gravit\u00e9. Ce personnage cr\u00e9\u00e9 de toute pi\u00e8ce, n\u2019est qu\u2019une ombre, celle de la conscience des policiers et plus g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 fran\u00e7aise face aux bavures polici\u00e8res de 1986 qui lors des manifestations \u00e9tudiantes ont tu\u00e9 deux jeunes, Abdel et Malik, sans lien aucun avec les manifestations et qui devinrent les embl\u00e8mes d\u2019une jeunesse et d\u2019une opposition.<\/p><p>S\u00e9lectionn\u00e9 au Festival de Cannes 2022 et repr\u00e9sentant de l\u2019Alg\u00e9rie aux Oscars 2023, \u00ab Nos Frangins \u00bb s\u2019inscrit dans la lign\u00e9e des pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents films de Rachid Bouchareb de \u00ab Indig\u00e8nes \u00bb \u00e0 \u00ab Hors-la-loi \u00bb en mettant en lumi\u00e8re les pages sombres de l\u2019histoire coloniale ou post-coloniale de la nation fran\u00e7aise. En l\u2019occurrence, la lumi\u00e8re est ici cr\u00e9pusculaire tant son film prend une certaine forme de recueillement sur un ton fun\u00e8bre, en t\u00e9moigne la sc\u00e8ne d\u2019ouverture o\u00f9 une victime et un flic arrivent \u00e0 la morgue.<\/p><p>Sorti quelques mois apr\u00e8s la s\u00e9rie \u00ab Oussekine \u00bb d\u2019Antoine Chevrollier avec Kad Merad et Sayyid el Alami disponible sur <em>Disney+<\/em>, \u00ab Nos frangins \u00bb fr\u00f4lent \u00e9galement le documentaire avec une judicieuse utilisation d\u2019images d\u2019archives (de journaux TV, de l\u2019assembl\u00e9e avec un Charles Pasqua tentant d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9ment de recycler la punchline de Giscard, ou encore du jeune Abdel Benyahia) qui sert ici d\u2019outil dramaturgique pour \u00e9clairer l\u2019action et la faire avancer. Deux familles immigr\u00e9es, deux chemins diff\u00e9rents mais un r\u00e9sultat commun : le meurtre et le martyr. Quand l&rsquo;un a \u00e9t\u00e9 instrumentalis\u00e9 l\u2019autre fut \u00e9touff\u00e9. A travers ce travail de m\u00e9moire, Rachid Bouchareb sugg\u00e8re sur la fin que ces probl\u00e8mes ne sont malheureusement toujours pas r\u00e9solus \u2026<\/p><p>\u00ab Nos frangins \u00bb c\u2019est donc une forte reconstitution au style \u00e9pur\u00e9, \u00e9clair\u00e9 par le jeu de ses interpr\u00e8tes et son propos cat\u00e9gorique. He has to deliver the word to the families and investigate: he is thus the historical voice of the spectator to whom he tells the facts and shows their severity. This character, entirely created for the film, is merely a shadow, that of the conscience of the police and more generally of French society in the face of the police blunders of 1986 during the student demonstrations that killed two young people, Abdel and Malik, with no connection whatsoever to the demonstrations and who became the emblems of a youth and an opposition.<\/p><p>Selected for the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and representing Algeria at the 2023 Oscars, \u201cNos Frangins\u201d (literally \u201cOur Brothers\u201d) follows in the footsteps of Rachid Bouchareb&rsquo;s previous films, from \u201cIndig\u00e8nes\u201d to \u201cHors-la-loi\u201d, by shedding light on the dark pages of the French nation&rsquo;s colonial or post-colonial history. In this case, the light is twilight as his film takes a certain form of mourning in a funereal shade, as evidenced by the opening scene where a victim and a cop arrive at the morgue.<\/p><p>Released a few months after Antoine Chevrollier&rsquo;s series \u00ab\u00a0Oussekine\u00a0\u00bb with Kad Merad and Sayyid el Alami available on <em>Disney+<\/em>, \u201cNos frangins\u201d also verges on the documentary with a clever use of archival footage (of TV news, of the parliament with a Charles Pasqua desperately trying to recycle Giscard&rsquo;s punchline, or even of the young Abdel Benyahia) that serves here as a dramatic tool to shed light on the action and move it forward. But the film is much more political and critical with a strong message spitting out its anti-cop anger and against the failures of the immigration process with two French citizens of Algerian origin for whom assimilation and integration have not had the same effects.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19230 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Snapshot_3394.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Snapshot_3394.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Snapshot_3394-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Snapshot_3394-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Snapshot_3394-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Clearly a political film, it is also an intimate one, focusing mainly on the families&rsquo; pain, with a wonderful duet between Lyna Khoudri and Reda Kateb, always spot on, and a bending Samir Guesmi trying to go unnoticed by staying close to the walls. Two immigrant families, two different paths but a shared fate: murder and martyrdom. When one was instrumentalized the other was silenced. Through this work of memory, Rachid Bouchareb suggests at the end that these problems are unfortunately still not resolved &#8230;<\/p><p>\u201cNos frangins\u201d is therefore a strong reconstitution with a refined style, enlightened by the performance of its actors and its adamant statement. If the state mechanisms of a state lie remain somewhat on the surface, surely lacking a bit of contextualization, the film focuses mainly on its characters and does it very well.<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl
