Dans son pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent film, il mettait en sc\u00e8ne les heures et jours suivant l\u2019assassinat de JFK o\u00f9 l\u2019heure du deuil ne rime pas avec intimit\u00e9 pour Jackie mais bien avec post\u00e9rit\u00e9. Elle y organisait les fun\u00e9railles nationales de sorte que son \u00e9poux laisse une trace dans l\u2019Histoire et qu\u2019il ne tombe surtout pas dans l\u2019oubli. Dans \u00ab Spencer \u00bb, il s\u2019agit cette fois d\u2019une femme cherchant justement \u00e0 \u00e9chapper \u00e0 cette post\u00e9rit\u00e9 synonyme de carcan.<\/p><p>L\u2019intrigue se d\u00e9roule ainsi \u00e0 No\u00ebl en 1991 La famille royale se retrouve pour les f\u00eates, Diana conna\u00eet le jeu mais s\u2019y rend \u00e0 reculons. Son mariage avec Charles ne tient plus qu\u2019\u00e0 un fil, le fil de la couronne. Elle se sent constamment traqu\u00e9e \u00e0 la fois dans le viseur des m\u00e9dias, de la famille royale et dans celui de l\u2019Histoire. Qui est-elle ? Qui sera-t-elle ? Une princesse, une m\u00e8re, une devise \u2026<\/p><p>\u00ab Spencer \u00bb parvient parfaitement \u00e0 \u00e9voquer ce personnage \u00e9minemment myst\u00e9rieux. Il ne s\u2019agit pas d\u2019un biopic, mais bien d\u2019un travail autour du personnage tissant une v\u00e9ritable fable. Au gr\u00e9 d\u2019un rythme lent, le r\u00e9alisateur de \u00ab No \u00bb nous emm\u00e8ne ainsi au sein de la vie protocolaire royale anglaise sous l\u2019\u0153il de son personnage. Nous vivons cette histoire avec elle et non d\u2019un point de vue ext\u00e9rieur \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re de \u00ab The Crown \u00bb.<\/p><p>\u00c9crit par Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), \u00ab Spencer \u00bb se distingue par sa magnifique photographie de la cheffe op\u00e9ratrice fran\u00e7aise Claire Mathon (Portrait de la jeune fille en feu) avec un haut format 1 :85 et des plans tr\u00e8s travaill\u00e9s des couleurs diaphanes aux choix des longs plans fixes, travellings et plong\u00e9es a\u00e9riennes tr\u00e8s \u00e0 propos. Le cadrage est d\u2019une remarquable minutie permettant d\u2019approfondir le personnage de Diana en opposant la sym\u00e9trie de l\u2019ordre \u00e9tabli face aux plans d\u00e9centr\u00e9s de sa libert\u00e9 recherch\u00e9e.<\/p><p>Enfin, \u00ab Spencer \u00bb fonctionne merveilleusement bien gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la performance d\u2019actrice de Kristen Stewart qui prend la d\u00e9marche et la voix de Diana en composant une princesse horrifi\u00e9e en qu\u00eate de sa propre r\u00e9alit\u00e9 pour s\u2019en affranchir dans une tr\u00e8s belle fin. L\u2019ensemble du casting est par ailleurs irr\u00e9prochable avec Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins, Sean Harris et Jack Farthing. In his previous film, he depicted the hours and days following the assassination of JFK where the mourning time did not rhyme with intimacy for Jackie but rather with posterity. She organized a national funeral so that her husband would be remembered in history and not forgotten. In \u201cSpencer\u201d, this time it is about a woman trying to escape this posterity that represents a shackle.<\/p><p>The plot takes place at Christmas in 1991. The royal family gathers for the holidays, Diana knows the rules of the game, but goes reluctantly. Her marriage to Charles is hanging by a thread, the crown thread. She feels constantly hounded by the media, by the royal family and by History. Who is she? Who will she be? A princess, a mother, a currency &#8230;<\/p><p>\u201cSpencer\u201d succeeds perfectly in evoking this eminently mysterious character. It is not a biopic, but a work around the character weaving a real fable. With a slow rhythm, the director of \u201cNo\u201d takes us into the heart of the English royal protocol life through the eyes of his character. We live this story with her and not from an external point of view like in \u201cThe Crown\u201d.<\/p><p>Written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), \u201cSpencer\u201d stands out for its magnificent photography by French cinematographer Claire Mathon (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) with a high 1:85 aspect ratio and very carefully crafted shots, from the diaphanous colors to the very fitting choice of long fixed shots, tracking shots and aerial dives. The framing is remarkably meticulous, allowing the character of Diana to be explored in depth by opposing the symmetry of the established system to the off-center shots of her sought-after freedom.<\/p><p>Finally, \u201cSpencer\u201d works wonderfully well thanks to the acting performance of Kristen Stewart who takes on the walk and voice of Diana, composing a horrified princess in search of her own reality to free herself from it in a beautiful ending. The whole cast is also flawless with Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins, Sean Harris and Jack Farthing. If Kristen Stewart will probably be competing against Nicole Kidman and Lady Gaga for the Oscar this year, she clearly deserves it in my opinion, especially since \u00ab\u00a0Spencer\u00a0\u00bb is a
