Voil\u00e0 comment l\u2019on pourrait qualifier \u00ab Le Quatri\u00e8me Mur \u00bb, long-m\u00e9trage sign\u00e9 David Oelhoffen et adapt\u00e9 du roman \u00e9ponyme de Sorj Chalandon. Liban, 1982 : Georges reprend le projet cher et risqu\u00e9 d\u2019un grand ami metteur en sc\u00e8ne, \u00e0 savoir celui de monter l\u2019Antigone de Jean Anouilh en pleine guerre civile dans le Pays du C\u00e8dre, avec des actrices et acteurs issues et issus de toutes les communaut\u00e9s (confessionnelles comme politiques). Georges, qui n\u2019y conna\u00eet rien \u00e0 ce conflit, d\u00e9barque alors dans un autre monde qui va le bouleverser\u2026<\/p><p>Choquante, dramatique et tragique (ces deux derniers adjectifs \u00e9tant tr\u00e8s importants pour qui aura vu le film), l\u2019intrigue nous plonge dans un Liban divis\u00e9 et d\u00e9vast\u00e9, o\u00f9 m\u00eame l\u2019id\u00e9e d\u2019une pi\u00e8ce de th\u00e9\u00e2tre et plus g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement l\u2019art ne parviennent pas vraiment \u00e0 d\u00e9passer les clivages et les tensions. Georges est ainsi souvent d\u00e9pass\u00e9, m\u00eame lorsqu\u2019il commence \u00e0 un peu mieux comprendre les m\u00e9caniques de la guerre ; par exemple, il ne parle pas l\u2019arabe \u2013 qui par choix n\u2019est pas sous-titr\u00e9, afin de souligner l\u2019incompr\u00e9hension qui effraye le h\u00e9ros du film.<\/p><p>V\u00e9ritable et terrible immersion dans la guerre civile libanaise \u2013 avec une contextualisation historique r\u00e9aliste et reprenant les complexes et nombreux \u00e9v\u00e8nements meurtriers de l\u2019ann\u00e9e 1982 \u2013, \u00ab Le Quatri\u00e8me Mur \u00bb t\u00e9moigne de l\u2019ultra-violence sourde et aveugle qu\u2019ont v\u00e9cue dans leur chair les populations locales, qu\u2019importe leur bord ou leur religion. Le long-m\u00e9trage constitue de surcro\u00eet une puissante et symbolique mise en abyme du th\u00e9\u00e2tre et de la pi\u00e8ce Antigone, ici r\u00e9appropri\u00e9e g\u00e9opolitiquement et personnellement par chacun des com\u00e9diens qui y jouent un r\u00f4le \u2013 et qui d\u2019ailleurs avait \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9crite par Anouilh pendant la Seconde guerre mondiale.<\/p><p>Avec des personnages profonds et touchants dont la fragile union par l\u2019art en zone de guerre (pr\u00e9tendument) neutre transmet nombre de messages politiques, \u00ab Le Quatri\u00e8me Mur \u00bb se conclut par une fin d\u2019autant plus tragique qu\u2019elle est le prolongement d\u2019une introduction qui heurte et coupe le souffle d\u00e8s les premi\u00e8res minutes. This is the adaptation by David Oelhoffen of the novel of the same name from Sorj Chalandon. Set in Lebanon in 1982, the story sees Georges take on the risky project of a dear friend and fellow theater director, to stage Jean Anouilh&rsquo;s play Antigone in the midst of the civil war in Lebanon, with actors and actresses from all the country&rsquo;s communities (religious and political). Georges, who knows nothing about the conflict, thus steps into another world that will shake him to the core&#8230;<\/p><p>The plot is shocking, dramatic and tragic (the last two adjectives being very important for anyone who has seen the film), and takes us into a divided and devastated Lebanon, where even the idea of a play, and art in general, cannot really overcome the divisions and tensions. Georges is often overwhelmed, even when he begins to understand the dynamics of war a little better; for example, he doesn&rsquo;t speak Arabic \u2013 which, deliberately, is not subtitled, to emphasize the lack of understanding that frightens the protagonist.<\/p><p>The film is a true and terrifying immersion in the Lebanese civil war, with a realistic historical context that covers the complex and numerous murderous events of 1982. \u201cLe Quatri\u00e8me Mur\u201d (Lit. \u201cThe Fourth Wall\u201d) witnesses the deaf and blind ultra-violence felt in the flesh by the local population, regardless of political affiliation or religious beliefs. The film is also a powerful and symbolic <em>mise en abyme<\/em> of the theater and the play Antigone, here geopolitically and personally reclaimed by each of the actors who play a role in it \u2013 and which, after all, was written by Anouilh during the Second World War.<\/p><p>With deep, touching characters whose fragile union through art in a (supposedly) neutral war zone conveys a number of political messages, \u201cLe Quatri\u00e8me Mur\u201d culminates in an ending that is all the more tragic for being the follow-up to a shocking and breathtaking introduction right from the very first minutes. This is a great film that unsettles and challenges, but is also highly relevant.<\/p><p>Axel
