am\u00e9ricain sur un musicien\u00a0? Oui dans la mesure o\u00f9 c\u2019est un film de facture assez classique sur la star du folk aujourd\u2019hui \u00e2g\u00e9 de 83 ans. Mais pas compl\u00e8tement non plus puisque \u00ab\u00a0Un Parfait Inconnu\u00a0\u00bb choisit un v\u00e9ritable angle th\u00e9matique et ne s\u2019enfonce pas dans le r\u00e9cit biographique <em>Wikip\u00e9dia<\/em> \u00e0 rallonge. D\u2019une part le film se limite \u00e0 une p\u00e9riode courte et sp\u00e9cifique bien qu\u2019embl\u00e9matique\u00a0: de janvier 1961 \u00e0 juillet 1965 o\u00f9 un \u00e9nigmatique jeune homme de 19 ans d\u00e9barque depuis son Minnesota natal avec sa guitare au Greenwich Village alors \u00e9picentre de la boh\u00e8me et du folk am\u00e9ricains. Mais aussi puisque conter la carri\u00e8re de Bob Dylan, c\u2019est aussi raconter un moment de l\u2019histoire musicale (et pas que) am\u00e9ricaine, parler de ses textes politiques et intimes, et bien \u00e9videmment de son passage \u00e0 la guitare \u00e9lectrique\u00a0: d\u2019o\u00f9 l\u2019histoire d\u2019un parfait inconnu qui d\u00e9barque \u00e0 New-York et conna\u00eet une ascension fulgurante avant de redevenir un parfait inconnu pour ses (d\u00e9sormais tr\u00e8s nombreux) fans.<\/p><p>Ce n\u2019est donc pas le plus audacieux (Todd Haynes avait sign\u00e9 un biopic avec six acteurs\/actrices pour l\u2019interpr\u00e9ter) et le plus innovant des biopics, mais son choix narratif lui procure un v\u00e9ritable int\u00e9r\u00eat et la r\u00e9alisation tr\u00e8s soign\u00e9e de James Mangold en fait un film r\u00e9ussi, tr\u00e8s agr\u00e9able et m\u00e9lodieux. Il y a en effet de tr\u00e8s nombreuses chansons tout du long, et pas que de Bob Dylan d\u2019ailleurs, avec les r\u00f4les cruciaux de Peete Seeger et Joan Baez notamment. Jouant et chantant son r\u00f4le avec un rare mim\u00e9tisme, Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet impressionne \u00e0 nouveau en incarnant un Dylan myst\u00e9rieux, nonchalant et pas toujours aimable. Bien que le timbre aiguis\u00e9 et nasillard de Dylan ne soit pas exactement rendu, l\u2019acteur dispara\u00eet progressivement dans son r\u00f4le pour lequel il a d\u00fb apprendre la guitare (tout comme Monica Barbaro et Edward Norton qui d\u00e9livrent d\u2019excellentes performances).<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-17408 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Snapshot_3053.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Snapshot_3053.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Snapshot_3053-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Snapshot_3053-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Snapshot_3053-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0Un Parfait Inconnu\u00a0\u00bb se distingue du pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent biopic musical du r\u00e9alisateur \u00ab\u00a0Walk the Line\u00a0\u00bb (sur le destin du chanteur country Johnny Cash, qui est \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent dans l\u2019intrigue ici mais \u00e9videmment plut\u00f4t vu sous les yeux de Dylan) par son choix de ne pas chercher \u00e0 \u00e9claircir le myst\u00e8re qui entoure la figure de Bob Dylan. Les explications du ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne on ne les obtient pas, de sorte qu\u2019on ne plonge pas v\u00e9ritablement en profondeur dans une \u00e9tude de sa personnalit\u00e9. Le film raconte ainsi autant Dylan lui-m\u00eame que l\u2019effet Dylan sur son public et son entourage comme le montrent les tr\u00e8s nombreux regards qui se croisent et s\u2019entrecroisent lors des concerts. C\u2019est l\u2019une des grandes forces du film, la force et l\u2019\u00e9motion qu\u2019il donne \u00e0 ses personnages secondaires, tout aussi important dans l\u2019intrigue que son protagoniste biographi\u00e9.<\/p><p>Si le sc\u00e9nario suit certaines \u00e9tapes in\u00e9vitables (les rencontres d\u00e9cisives, les succ\u00e8s, les amis et amours \u2013 avec un triangle int\u00e9ressant), il choisit un point de focale inattendu en la personne de Woody Guthrie \u2013 ce chantre libertaire des luttes sociales, et des travailleurs de la Grande D\u00e9pression atteint de la maladie de Huntington \u2013 qui devient la v\u00e9ritable boussole du film\u00a0: de son influence dans le lancement de la carri\u00e8re de Dylan \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cart pris par l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve vis-\u00e0-vis de son mentor. Et cet \u00e9loignement il s\u2019op\u00e8re lorsque le chanteur, refusant toutes les \u00e9tiquettes, fit en 1965 le choix tr\u00e8s controvers\u00e9 (mais qui aura des r\u00e9percussions mondiales) de passer de l\u2019acoustique \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9lectrique. Ce geste fit en effet trembler la sc\u00e8ne folk et fut pris comme une trahison par une partie du public bien qu\u2019il ouvr\u00eet une nouvelle voie pour des auteurs-compositeurs comme Neill Young. Yes, to the extent that it&rsquo;s a fairly standard film about the folk legend, who&rsquo;s now 83. But not entirely, either, since \u201cA Complete Unknown\u201d takes a true thematic approach and doesn&rsquo;t fall into the trap of a drawn-out Wikipedia account. For one thing, the film is limited to a short, specific yet emblematic period: from January 1961 to July 1965, when an enigmatic 19-year-old arrived from his native Minnesota with his guitar in Greenwich Village, then the heart of American folk and bohemian music. But also, because telling the story of Bob Dylan&rsquo;s career means telling the story of a moment in American musical (and not only) history, of his political and intimate lyrics, and of course of his move to the electric guitar: hence the story of a complete unknown who lands in New York and experiences a lightning rise to fame, before once again becoming a complete unknown to his (now very large) fan base.<\/p><p>It&rsquo;s not the most daring (Todd Haynes previously directed a Dylan biopic featuring six actors\/actresses) or the most groundbreaking of biopics, but the narrative choice makes for a genuinely interesting film, and James Mangold&rsquo;s meticulous direction makes for an enjoyable, melodious and highly accomplished film. There are indeed plenty of songs throughout, and not just Bob Dylan&rsquo;s, with Peete Seeger and Joan Baez playing key roles. Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet plays and sings his role with a rare degree of mimicry, impressing once again as a mysterious, nonchalant and not always lovable Dylan. Although Dylan&rsquo;s sharp, nasal timbre is not exactly reproduced, the actor gradually fades into his role, for which he had to learn the guitar (as did Monica Barbaro and Edward Norton, who deliver outstanding performances).<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-17408 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Snapshot_3053.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Snapshot_3053.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Snapshot_3053-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Snapshot_3053-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Snapshot_3053-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>\u201cA Complete Unknown\u201d differs from the director&rsquo;s previous musical biopic \u201cWalk the Line\u201d (on the fate of country singer Johnny Cash, who is also featured in the plot here but obviously seen more through Dylan&rsquo;s eyes) in its choice not to seek to shed light on the mystery surrounding the figure of Bob Dylan. We don&rsquo;t get the explanations for the Dylan phenomenon, so we don&rsquo;t delve too deeply into a study of his personality. The film is therefore as much about Dylan himself as it is about the Dylan effect on his audience and entourage, as illustrated by the many glances that cross and intertwine at the concerts. This is one of the film&rsquo;s great strengths, the power and emotion it gives to its supporting characters, who are just as important to the plot as its biographed protagonist.<\/p><p>While the script follows certain unavoidable milestones (decisive encounters, successes, friends and lovers \u2013 with an interesting triangle), it chooses an unexpected focal point in the person of Woody Guthrie \u2013 that libertarian singer of social struggles, and of Depression-era workers suffering from Huntington&rsquo;s disease \u2013 who becomes the film&rsquo;s true compass: from his influence in launching Dylan&rsquo;s career to the departure of the disciple from his mentor. And this distancing took place when, in 1965, the singer, refusing to be confined into a box, made the highly controversial choice (which was soon to have worldwide repercussions) of switching from acoustic to electric. This move rocked the folk scene and was seen as a betrayal by a lot of his fans, even though it opened up a new path for singer-songwriters such as Neill Young. So, this is not an exhaustive biopic of Robert Zimmerman&rsquo;s life, but rather a chapter in Bob Dylan&rsquo;s career that comes to a close at the 1965 Newport Festival.<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl
