Isra\u00ebl tente en effet de chasser \u2018l\u00e9galement\u2019 ces \u00e9leveurs de la vingtaine de villages que regroupe Masafer Yatta, cette r\u00e9gion semi-d\u00e9sertique du sud de la Cisjordanie occup\u00e9e. La population avait jusque-l\u00e0 r\u00e9ussi pendant quatre d\u00e9cennies \u00e0 contenir l\u2019emprise des militaires et des colons (notamment en attente d\u2019une d\u00e9cision de justice isra\u00e9lienne), reconstruisant inlassablement leurs habitations et se r\u00e9fugiant dans des habitats troglodytes de fortune. Mais la Cour Supr\u00eame isra\u00e9lienne a finalement tranch\u00e9\u00a0: Masafer Yatta sera un terrain d\u2019entra\u00eenement militaire\u00a0! Avec Hamdan Ballal, un ami fermier, et deux Isra\u00e9liens solidaires et oppos\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019occupation, Rachel Szor une cheffe-op\u00e9ratrice et Yuval Abraham un journaliste d\u2019investigation, Basel documente ainsi de l\u2019int\u00e9rieur la violence de l\u2019occupation isra\u00e9lienne en Cisjordanie et le cycle infernal qui s\u2019instaure lors de la plus grande expulsion isra\u00e9lienne depuis 1967 \u2026<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0No Other Land\u00a0\u00bb est un documentaire brut et \u00e9difiant port\u00e9 par la force de ses images de terrain, dont on ressort sans voix devant l\u2019inhumanit\u00e9 de notre monde. C\u2019est un t\u00e9moignage d\u00e9vastateur sur le gouffre politique et moral dans lequel sombre Isra\u00ebl, et un t\u00e9moignage courageux de deux Palestiniens et deux Isra\u00e9liens qui ont uni leurs forces dans une d\u00e9nonciation qui s\u2019en voit in\u00e9vitablement renforc\u00e9e. Tourn\u00e9 entre l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 2019 et le mois fatidique d\u2019octobre 2023, c\u2019est un tournage long, fastidieux et dangereux dans des conditions pr\u00e9caires entre urgence, col\u00e8re et humour. Ces quatre jeunes cherchent \u00e0 travers leur union et ce choix du long-m\u00e9trage \u00e0 d\u00e9cloisonner la circulation de leurs images et \u00e0 proposer une contre-information jusque dans les m\u00e9dias isra\u00e9liens.<\/p><p>Leur travail commun constitue le socle th\u00e9matique d\u2019un tel film entre amiti\u00e9 et solidarit\u00e9 comme fil rouge d\u2019une relation de confiance qui se construit progressivement dans un pays o\u00f9 les citoyens sont violemment discrimin\u00e9s selon les couleurs. Yuval occupe ici une place particuli\u00e8re car sa l\u00e9gitimit\u00e9 est constamment mise \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9preuve (par les deux camps) et puisque son amiti\u00e9 avec Basel constitue le symbole m\u00eame d\u2019une paix id\u00e9alement possible. Au final, la v\u00e9ritable le\u00e7on de paix ne se trouve pas dans le documentaire mais dans sa gen\u00e8se\u00a0: celle de la collaboration paisible entre deux hommes que tout divise l\u00e9galement mais qui ne sont finalement pas si diff\u00e9rents, deux hommes qui pourraient bien devenir amis alors qu\u2019un apartheid tente inlassablement de les s\u00e9parer.<\/p><p>Mais si les r\u00e9alisateurs-r\u00e9sistants filment \u00e9videmment pour partager la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 et faire prendre conscience de la catastrophe en cours, ils veulent aussi cr\u00e9er un savoir et une pression politique pour que cette communaut\u00e9 ne soit pas effac\u00e9e par l\u2019occupation. En somme, ce n\u2019est pas un documentaire sur une r\u00e9sistance pacifique, c\u2019est le documentaire lui-m\u00eame de par ses images et la t\u00e9nacit\u00e9 de ces quatre jeunes \u00e0 toujours vouloir filmer et documenter la situation qui constitue en lui-m\u00eame un geste de r\u00e9sistance. On vient arm\u00e9 chez eux et on leur confisque leurs outils, alors la cam\u00e9ra devient leur nouvelle arme et l\u2019image un projectile qu\u2019ils n\u2019esp\u00e8rent pas \u00eatre \u00e0 blanc. Israel is in fact attempting to \u201clegally\u201d drive these farmers out of the twenty or so villages that make up Masafer Yatta, a semi-desert region in the south of the occupied West Bank. Up until then, the population had managed to hold off the military and settlers for four decades (pending an Israeli court ruling), tirelessly rebuilding their homes and taking refuge in makeshift cave dwellings. But the Israeli Supreme Court has finally ruled: Masafer Yatta will be a military training ground! Together with Hamdan Ballal, a farmer friend, and two Israelis who stand in solidarity and stand up to the occupation, Rachel Szor, a film operator, and Yuval Abraham, an investigative journalist, Basel thus provides an insider&rsquo;s view of the violence of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, and the never-ending cycle set in motion by the largest Israeli eviction since 1967&#8230;<\/p><p>\u201cNo Other Land\u201d is a raw and powerful documentary, with images from the field that leave us speechless in the face of the inhumanity of our world. It is a shattering testimony to the political and moral abyss into which Israel is sinking, and a courageous testimony from two Palestinians and two Israelis who have joined forces in a condemnation that is bound to be strengthened. Shot between the summer of 2019 and the fateful month of October 2023, it&rsquo;s a long, tedious and dangerous journey in precarious conditions between urgency, anger and humor. Through their union and the choice of this feature-length film, these four young people are seeking to open up the spread of their images and offer counter-information even to the Israeli media.<\/p><p>Their work together provides the thematic foundation for such a film, with friendship and solidarity as the guiding light for a trusting bond that gradually builds up in a country where citizens are severely discriminated on the basis of color. Yuval takes on a special role here, since his legitimacy is constantly put to the test (by both sides), and since his friendship with Basel represents the very symbol of an ideally possible peace. In the end, the real lesson for peace is not to be found in the documentary but in its making: that of the peaceful collaboration between two men who are legally divided but who are not so different after all, two men who could well become friends while an apartheid relentlessly tries to keep them apart.<\/p><p>But while the filmmakers\/resistants obviously film to share their reality and raise awareness of the ongoing tragedy, they also want to create knowledge and political pressure to ensure that this community is not erased by the occupation. Ultimately, this is not a documentary about peaceful resistance; it&rsquo;s the documentary itself, through its images and the tenacity of these four young people to always want to film and document the situation, which in itself amounts to an act of resistance. As their homes are taken with arms and their tools seized, the camera then becomes their new weapon, and the image a bullet they hope won&rsquo;t come up blank.
