au chiffre Six, se retrouve poursuivi par son employeur tentant de r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer des informations sensibles. Une chasse \u00e0 l\u2019homme mondiale est alors engag\u00e9e et men\u00e9e par un ex-coll\u00e8gue connu pour ses m\u00e9thodes de sociopathe.<\/p><p>V\u00e9ritable imitation d\u2019une \u00ab Mission impossible \u00bb de \u00ab Jason Bourne \u00bb, \u00ab The Gray Man \u00bb est un \u00e9norme blockbuster am\u00e9ricain bourr\u00e9 d\u2019action disponible depuis ce vendredi sur <em>Netflix<\/em>. S\u2019il est adapt\u00e9 du premier roman de la s\u00e9rie litt\u00e9raire \u00ab Gray Man \u00bb de Mark Greaney (qui fut notamment co-auteur de Tom Clancy sur la saga Jack Ryan), il s\u2019agit surtout d\u2019une r\u00e9\u00e9criture tr\u00e8s mondialis\u00e9e et testost\u00e9ron\u00e9e avec pas moins de neuf s\u00e9quences d\u2019actions sur 2h et aux quatre coins du monde. Malgr\u00e9 un sc\u00e9nario assez vide, le film reste captivant et divertissant avec de bons moments. Quel plaisir de parcourir Prague mais quel dommage de l\u2019incendier de la sorte et de d\u00e9truire un r\u00e9seau de transport si bien con\u00e7u ! Merci Prague pour Bakou et Chantilly pour la Croatie au passage, s\u00e9rieusement les deux pays n\u2019ont absolument pas la m\u00eame histoire architecturale mais bref !<\/p><p>Certes les \u00e9l\u00e9ments du roman sont conserv\u00e9s mais le fond est totalement modifi\u00e9. Une intrigue faite de transaction p\u00e9troli\u00e8re et d\u2019assassinats devient chez Hollywood une trahison \u00e0 la CIA et un sauvetage d\u2019enfant changeant tout simplement la nature du bouquin. Le suspense dispara\u00eet progressivement dans une structure sc\u00e9naristique conventionnelle au possible qui remplit son cahier des charges avec humanit\u00e9 de l\u2019assassin, personnage f\u00e9minin <em>badass<\/em>, m\u00e9chants excessifs et <em>happy ending<\/em>. Son rythme effr\u00e9n\u00e9, son casting charismatique, et ses r\u00e9f\u00e9rences sympathiques en font in fine un divertissement n\u00e9anmoins agr\u00e9able mais rien de vraiment m\u00e9morable si ce n\u2019est son incroyable budget. Avec ses $200M, il devient le plus gros budget <em>Netflix<\/em> avec \u00ab Red Notice \u00bb qui avait fait un \u00e9norme carton en b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiant de trois des plus grosses stars actuelles. Ici on n\u2019a pas droit \u00e0 un calibre exactement similaire mais c\u2019est l\u2019ensemble qui s\u2019av\u00e8re tout aussi attractif avec le trio Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas en t\u00eate suivi de Jessica Henwick, Reg\u00e9-Jean Page, Wagner Moura, Dhanush, et Billy Bob Thornton.<\/p><p>Premier r\u00f4le majeur quatre ans apr\u00e8s \u00ab First Man \u00bb, Ryan Gosling impressionne en super star d\u2019action et montre une nouvelle corde \u00e0 son arc. C\u2019est en cela un point positif pour cet acteur riche en diversit\u00e9 de jeu mais qui n\u2019en montre en revanche pas tellement dans ce thriller d\u2019action. Chris Evans r\u00e9ussit une composition caricaturale et moustachue de m\u00e9chant tentant tant bien que mal de contraster son image iconique de Captain America. Et Ana de Armas, rejoue les espionnes de choc apr\u00e8s sa br\u00e8ve rencontre avec 007 dans \u00ab Mourir peut attendre \u00bb. Personnage assez fade, elle ne tombe n\u00e9anmoins pas dans le clich\u00e9 hollywoodien avant d\u2019interpr\u00e9ter La star des ann\u00e9es 50 dans le tr\u00e8s attendu \u00ab Blonde \u00bb disponible \u00e9galement sur <em>Netflix<\/em> dans tr\u00e8s exactement deux mois. Un casting convaincant mais tr\u00e8s largement sous-exploit\u00e9, sans parler du casting secondaire de qualit\u00e9 mais servant presque de figuration \u00e0 l\u2019image de Wagner Moura pourtant star de l\u2019une des principales s\u00e9ries ayant fait la notori\u00e9t\u00e9 de Netflix avec \u00ab Narcos \u00bb.<\/p><p>Apr\u00e8s avoir sign\u00e9 les deux plus gros succ\u00e8s du MCU (Infinity War et Endgame ayant tous deux rapport\u00e9s plus de 2 milliards de recettes), Anthony et Joe Russo sont partis chez <em>Netflix<\/em> avant de revenir irr\u00e9m\u00e9diablement dans le giron <em>Marvel<\/em> d\u2019ici quelques ann\u00e9es. Ils sont impliqu\u00e9s sur \u00ab The Gray Man \u00bb depuis 2014 \u00e0 la suite d\u2019un projet d\u2019adaptation d\u2019abord g\u00e9r\u00e9 par <em>Sony<\/em> avec James Gray aux manettes et Brad Pitt puis (cherchant \u00e0 f\u00e9miniser le r\u00f4le) Charlize Theron dans le r\u00f4le principal du tueur badass.<\/p><p>L\u2019acquisition du projet par <em>Netflix<\/em> et son budget stratosph\u00e9rique font \u00e9tat de deux tendances actuelles. Un tel projet aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 un blockbuster estival chez Sony et donc un produit lucratif et rentable en salles attirant un large public pour ses sc\u00e8nes d\u2019action et son casting \u00e0 la mode. Mais d\u00e9sormais, c\u2019est la guerre des plateforme streaming qui domine le march\u00e9 (ok certes Maverick vole encore au-dessus de tout \u00e7a mais quand m\u00eame !) dans un seul but : gagner toujours plus d\u2019abonn\u00e9s dans un march\u00e9 qui arrive \u00e0 saturation et dont les projets quel que soit leur budget ne rapporteront pas le moindre dollar par eux-m\u00eames. Mais jusqu\u2019ici les projets records de <em>Netflix<\/em> \u00e9taient (non seulement bien moins cher) mais surtout attach\u00e9s \u00e0 des r\u00e9alisateurs de prestige (Scorsese, Bay, Clooney). Mais pour tenter d\u2019endiguer sa perte d\u2019abonn\u00e9s face \u00e0 une concurrence de plus en plus importante, la plateforme mise d\u00e9sormais sur le spectacle \u00e0 tout prix litt\u00e9ralement, \u00e0 savoir de l\u2019action et des stars (aussi bien pour \u00ab Red Notice \u00bb que \u00ab The Gray Man \u00bb). A worldwide manhunt is then initiated and led by an ex-colleague known for his sociopathic tactics.<\/p><p>True rip-off of a \u201cJason Bourne\u201d&rsquo;s \u201cMission Impossible\u201d, \u201cThe Gray Man\u201d is a huge action-packed American blockbuster available since this Friday on <em>Netflix<\/em>. While it is adapted from the first novel of the literary series \u201cGray Man\u201d by Mark Greaney (who was once Tom Clancy&rsquo;s co-writer of the Jack Ryan saga), it is above all a very globalized and testosterone-filled rewrite with no less than nine action sequences over two hours and all over the world. In spite of a rather empty script, the film remains engaging and entertaining with some good moments. What a pleasure to travel through Prague but what a pity to burn it down like this and destroy such a well-designed transportation network! Oh, by the way, thank you Prague for embodying Baku and Chantilly for Croatia, but seriously the two countries have absolutely not the same architectural history but never mind!<\/p><p>Admittedly the elements of the novel are preserved but the background is totally altered. A plot made of oil transaction and assassinations becomes in Hollywood a betrayal at the CIA and a rescue of a child quite simply changing the nature of the story. The suspense gradually disappears in a conventional script structure that fulfills its requirements with the assassin&rsquo;s humanness, a badass female character, excessive villains and a happy ending. Its frantic pace, charismatic cast, and cool references eventually make it a decent entertainment but nothing really memorable except for its incredible budget. With its $200M, it becomes the biggest <em>Netflix<\/em> budget with \u201cRed Notice\u201d which had made a huge hit by benefiting from three of the biggest current stars. Here we are not exactly entitled to the same caliber but it is the ensemble that proves equally attractive with the trio Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas in the lead supported by Jessica Henwick, Reg\u00e9-Jean Page, Wagner Moura, Dhanush, and Billy Bob Thornton.<\/p><p>In his first major role four years after \u201cFirst Man\u201d, Ryan Gosling is impressive as an action super star and shows a new string to his bow. This is a good thing for an actor with a lot of versatility, but who doesn&rsquo;t show much of it in this action thriller. Chris Evans succeeds in a cartoonish and whiskered composition of a villain trying to contrast his iconic figure of Captain America. And Ana de Armas, once again plays the hardcore spy after her brief encounter with 007 in \u201cNo Time to Die\u201d. As a rather bland character, she nonetheless does not fall into the Hollywood clich\u00e9 before interpreting The 1950s star in the highly anticipated \u201cBlonde\u201d available also on Netflix in exactly two months. A convincing cast but widely underutilized, not to mention the quality secondary cast serving almost as extras like Wagner Moura yet star of one of the main series that made the fame of Netflix with \u201cNarcos\u201d.<\/p><p>After having directed the two biggest successes of the MCU (Infinity War and Endgame having both earned more than 2 billion dollars), Anthony and Joe Russo left for <em>Netflix<\/em> before returning to the <em>Marvel<\/em> family in a few years. They&rsquo;ve been involved on \u00ab\u00a0The Gray Man\u00a0\u00bb since 2014 following an adaptation project first handled by <em>Sony<\/em> with James Gray at the helm and Brad Pitt and then (looking to feminize the role) Charlize Theron in the lead role of the badass killer.<\/p><p>The acquisition of the project by <em>Netflix<\/em> and its stratospheric budget point to two current trends. Such a project would have been a summer blockbuster at <em>Sony<\/em> and therefore a money-maker and cost-effective theatrical product attracting a large audience for its action scenes and fashionable casting. But now, it&rsquo;s the streaming platform war that rules the market (okay, Maverick still flies above it all but still) with only one goal: to gain more and more subscribers in a market that is reaching saturation and whose projects, whatever their budget, won&rsquo;t bring in a single dollar by themselves. But until now, Netflix&rsquo;s record-breaking projects were (not only much cheaper) but mostly attached to prestigious directors (Scorsese, Bay, Clooney). However, in an attempt to stem its loss of subscribers in the face of growing competition, the platform is now banking on spectacle at all costs, literally, namely action and stars (both for \u201cRed Notice\u201d and \u201cThe Gray Man\u201d).
