Sorti le 19 juillet simultan\u00e9ment avec \u00ab Oppenheimer \u00bb, le film a profit\u00e9 de ce qu\u2019on a depuis appel\u00e9 le \u2018Barbenheimmer\u2019 : ce marketing pouss\u00e9 par les stars (de Margot Robbie \u00e0 Christopher Nolan en passant par Tom Cruise qui sortait son dernier \u00ab\u00a0Mission Impossible\u00a0\u00bb seulement une semaine avant et s\u2019est fait engloutir par le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne) pr\u00f4nant un retour en salles pour tous avec deux films port\u00e9s par des auteurs aux styles et tons bien diff\u00e9rents. Les deux films passaient alors du statut de concurrents \u00e0 \u00e9quipiers dans cette vaste op\u00e9ration men\u00e9e par <em>Warner<\/em> et <em>Universal<\/em> (et par extension <em>Paramount<\/em> qui en a fait les frais).<\/p><p>Mais c\u2019est bien \u00ab Barbie \u00bb qui a remport\u00e9 cette amicale comp\u00e9tition et de loin en marchant (talons ou sans talons) litt\u00e9ralement sur la concurrence. C\u2019est un film qui a fait beaucoup parler, engendr\u00e9 beaucoup de curiosit\u00e9 et dont nous avons d\u2019ailleurs d\u00e9j\u00e0 publi\u00e9 deux critiques divergentes. C\u2019est une \u0153uvre d\u2019un f\u00e9minisme post-metoo port\u00e9e par Margot Robbie, c\u00e9l\u00e8bre effigie et sex-symbol d\u2019Hollywood. L\u2019actrice australienne r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9e dans \u00ab Le Loup de Wall Street \u00bb s\u2019est depuis forg\u00e9 une place de choix dans l\u2019industrie du cin\u00e9ma am\u00e9ricaine tournant avec de grands noms (Once upon a time in Hollywood ; Babylon ; Amsterdam ; Asteroid City) et nomm\u00e9 aux Oscars pour \u00ab Moi, Tonya \u00bb. Elle s\u2019engage dor\u00e9navant avec des films tels que \u00ab Scandale \u00bb ou \u00ab Promising Young Woman \u00bb qu\u2019elle a produit via sa soci\u00e9t\u00e9 <em>LuckyChap Entertainment<\/em>.<\/p><p>Le projet de film \u00ab Barbie \u00bb \u00e9tait depuis longtemps dans les cartons de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 m\u00e8re de la c\u00e9l\u00e9brissime poup\u00e9e <em>Mattel<\/em> avec un film initialement produit par <em>Sony<\/em> et port\u00e9 par l\u2019actrice et humoriste am\u00e9ricaine Amy Schumer avant que celle-ci ne quitte le projet en 2016 d\u00fb \u00e0 un sc\u00e9nario pas assez dr\u00f4le et f\u00e9ministe \u00e0 son go\u00fbt. Margot Robbie racheta alors les droits et engagea Greta Gerwig (Les Filles du Docteur March ; Lady Bird) et Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story ; Frances Ha) pour r\u00e9\u00e9crire le sc\u00e9nario. Le projet migra alors chez <em>Warner<\/em> et fut \u00e9galement r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par Greta Gerwig avec Margot Robbie dans le r\u00f4le principal aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s d\u2019un excellent Ryan Gosling dans le r\u00f4le de Ken.<\/p><p>De la poup\u00e9e n\u00e9e dans les ann\u00e9es 1960, l\u2019actrice et productrice du film en a la blondeur et la plastique, mais elle n\u2019y joue certainement pas la femme-objet. \u00ab Barbie \u00bb questionne plut\u00f4t le patriarcat avec ironie \u00e0 travers un r\u00e9cit totalement caricatural et d\u00e9cal\u00e9 dans une ambiance clairement trop rose pour \u00eatre premier degr\u00e9. C\u2019est une \u0153uvre qui porte un concept, une id\u00e9e forte et bien pens\u00e9e o\u00f9 les d\u00e9cors de jouets construits en r\u00e9el et le retour \u00e0 d\u2019anciennes techniques de tournage renforcent l\u2019aspect \u2018<em>fake<\/em>\u2019 du monde de Barbie. S\u2019il manque fortement de subtilit\u00e9 \u00e0 mon go\u00fbt en nous soulignant \u00e0 gros trait son message, le film r\u00e9ussit pourtant un brillant prologue reproduisant plans-pour-plans celui de \u00ab 2001 : l\u2019odyss\u00e9e de l\u2019espace \u00bb dans un ton plus symbolique et m\u00e9taphysique que le reste de l\u2019intrigue. Bourr\u00e9 de r\u00e9f\u00e9rences aux mondes du grand et petit \u00e9crans, \u00ab Barbie \u00bb c\u2019est avant tout une com\u00e9die qui fait rire gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ses comiques de situation et ses allusions. Si Kingsley Ben-Adir d\u00e9montre une nouvelle fl\u00e8che \u00e0 son arc avec un r\u00f4le de Ken comique, dans l\u2019ensemble, le casting secondaire est grandement d\u00e9laiss\u00e9 sans v\u00e9ritable r\u00f4le dans l\u2019intrigue et presque rel\u00e9gu\u00e9 \u00e0 une fonction marketing avec sa galerie de stars et c\u00e9l\u00e9brit\u00e9s.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15009 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Snapshot_1203.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Snapshot_1203.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Snapshot_1203-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Snapshot_1203-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Snapshot_1203-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>\u00ab Barbie \u00bb divise grandement, et ce en grande partie pour une affaire de g\u00e9n\u00e9rations. Autant dans les r\u00e9f\u00e9rences que dans la nature du message, c\u2019est plus un film pour jeunes mais il a n\u00e9anmoins attir\u00e9 un tr\u00e8s large public et c\u2019est une des raisons de son impressionnant succ\u00e8s au box-office am\u00e9ricain et \u00e9galement mondial.<\/p><p>Si vous regardez les pr\u00e9dictions annuelles de box-office, \u00ab Barbie \u00bb n\u2019\u00e9tait jamais dans le top 10, ni am\u00e9ricain, ni mondial. Mais cet \u00e9t\u00e9 a d\u2019abord \u00e9t\u00e9 celui de toutes les d\u00e9sillusions pour les blockbusters am\u00e9ricains (Fast X ; Transformers ; The Flash ; Indiana Jones ; El\u00e9mentaire ; Mission Impossible), la faute d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 des budgets astronomiques, \u00e0 une certaine fatigue de formule probablement et \u00e0 d\u2019autres raisons conjoncturelles. Mais le fait est que les grands favoris n\u2019\u00e9taient pas l\u00e0 o\u00f9 on pouvait les attendre cet \u00e9t\u00e9. C\u2019est dans ce contexte \u2013 et une semaine apr\u00e8s la sortie de \u00ab Dead Reckoning \u00bb qui a alors perdu toutes ses projections <em>IMAX<\/em> et <em>DOLBY<\/em> \u2013 que \u00ab Barbie \u00bb et \u00ab Oppenheimer \u00bb sortent.<\/p><p>Evidemment, la poup\u00e9e rose r\u00e9alise un meilleur d\u00e9marrage que le p\u00e8re de la bombe atomique b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiant d\u2019une immense notori\u00e9t\u00e9, d\u2019une plus grande star en t\u00eate d\u2019affiche, d\u2019une dur\u00e9e plus abordable (2h vs 3h), d\u2019une classification plus favorable (PG-13 vs R-rated), d\u2019un int\u00e9r\u00eat probablement plus large et d\u2019un ton sympathique plus en accord avec les conventionnels divertissements estivaux. Mais les deux films explosent les pr\u00e9visions et r\u00e9alisent en \u00e9quipe le meilleur week-end d\u2019Hollywood depuis fort longtemps (4<sup>e<\/sup> meilleur box-office cumul\u00e9 de l\u2019Histoire). Depuis \u00ab Barbie \u00bb a pris les devants et a gravi un \u00e0 un les records, devenant le meilleur film r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par une femme en solo (toujours derri\u00e8re \u00ab La Reine des Neiges 2 \u00bb s\u2019il l\u2019on compte les cor\u00e9alisations) d\u00e9passant ainsi \u00ab Captain Marvel \u00bb. Il est \u00e9galement devenu le meilleur succ\u00e8s de toute l\u2019histoire du studio <em>Warner<\/em> devant \u00ab\u00a0Harry Potter 8\u00a0\u00bb (compensant quelque peu les r\u00e9cents d\u00e9boires des films <em>DC<\/em>). \u00ab Oppenheimer \u00bb, premier film de Nolan apr\u00e8s son d\u00e9part justement de <em>Warner<\/em>, obtient quant \u00e0 lui l\u2019\u00e9tonnant record de box-office ($777M) sans jamais avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 N\u00b01 du classement hebdomadaire du fait de sa sortie concomitante avec \u00ab Barbie \u00bb dont il aura \u00e0 la fois souffert mais aussi b\u00e9n\u00e9fici\u00e9.<\/p><p>C\u2019est simple, ce dernier est sans conteste le plus grand succ\u00e8s de l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 et s\u2019av\u00e8re tr\u00e8s bien parti pour devenir le film le plus rentable de l\u2019ann\u00e9e ! Il ne lui reste plus que \u00ab Super Mario Bros. \u00bb et ses 1,36 milliards de dollars de recettes mondiales \u00e0 d\u00e9passer, ce qui devrait \u00eatre le cas d\u2019ici la semaine prochaine. La poup\u00e9e de <em>Mattel<\/em> cumule actuellement un total de 1,34 milliards de dollars de recettes mondiales (actuellement 3<sup>e<\/sup> en France avec d\u00e9j\u00e0 5 millions d\u2019entr\u00e9es) et pourrait bien prendre et conserver le tr\u00f4ne jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la fin d\u2019ann\u00e9e. Released on July 19 alongside \u201cOppenheimer\u201d, the film enjoyed what has since been dubbed the \u00ab\u00a0Barbenheimmer\u00a0\u00bb: this star-driven marketing (from Margot Robbie to Christopher Nolan as well as Tom Cruise, who released his latest \u201cMission Impossible\u201d only one week before and was swallowed up by the phenomenon) promoted a return to cinemas for all with two films written and directed by auteurs with very different styles and tones. The two movies went from being competitors to teammates in this vast operation led by <em>Warner<\/em> and <em>Universal<\/em> (and by extension <em>Paramount<\/em>, which paid the price).<\/p><p>But \u201cBarbie\u201d did win this friendly competition by a mile, literally walking all over (with heels or not) the competition. It&rsquo;s a film that has generated a lot of buzz and curiosity, and of which we&rsquo;ve already published two divergent reviews. It&rsquo;s a post-metoo feminist movie starring Margot Robbie, the famous Hollywood icon and sex symbol. The Australian actress, who first made a name for herself in \u201cThe Wolf of Wall Street\u201d, has since forged a solid career for herself in the American film industry, working with some of the biggest names (Once upon a time in Hollywood; Babylon; Amsterdam; Asteroid City) and earning an Oscar nomination for \u201cI, Tonya\u201d. She is now getting involved with more militant movies such as \u201cBombshell\u201d and \u201cPromising Young Woman\u201d, which she produced via her company <em>LuckyChap Entertainment<\/em>.<\/p><p>The \u201cBarbie\u201d project had long been in the pipeline for the parent company of the famous doll, <em>Mattel<\/em>, with a film initially produced by <em>Sony<\/em> and starring American actress and comedian Amy Schumer, before she left the project in 2016 due to a script that wasn&rsquo;t funny and feminist enough for her taste. Margot Robbie then acquired the rights and hired Greta Gerwig (Little Women; Lady Bird) and Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story; Frances Ha) to rewrite the script. The project then moved to <em>Warner<\/em> and Greta Gerwig took over as director, with Margot Robbie in the lead role and an excellent Ryan Gosling as Ken.<\/p><p>The actress and producer of the movie has all the blonde hair and plasticity of the doll born in the 1960s, but she certainly doesn&rsquo;t play the character as a woman-object. Instead, \u201cBarbie\u201d questions patriarchy with irony, through a story that&rsquo;s totally cartoonish and offbeat, in a mood clearly too pink to be literal. It&rsquo;s a concept-driven work, with a strong, well-thought-out idea, where the real-life toy sets and the return to old-fashioned filming techniques add to the &lsquo;fake&rsquo; aspect of Barbie&rsquo;s world. Although the film lacks subtlety in the way it conveys its message, it does achieve a brilliant prologue that reproduces shot-for-shot that of \u201c2001: A Space Odyssey\u201d, in a tone more symbolic and metaphysical than the rest of the plot. Packed with references to the worlds of the big and small screens, \u201cBarbie\u201d is above all a comedy that makes you laugh thanks to its situational comedy and funny easter eggs. While Kingsley Ben-Adir demonstrates a new feather in his cap with a hilarious role as Ken, overall, the supporting cast is largely neglected, with no real part in the plot and almost relegated to a marketing role with its galaxy of stars and celebrities.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15009 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Snapshot_1203.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Snapshot_1203.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Snapshot_1203-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Snapshot_1203-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Snapshot_1203-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>This is a highly divisive film, and largely a matter of generations. As much in the references as in the substance of its message, it is more targeted for young people, but has nonetheless attracted a very wide audience, and that&rsquo;s one of the reasons behind its spectacular success both at the U.S. and worldwide box-office.<\/p><p>If you look at the annual box-office forecasts, \u00ab\u00a0Barbie\u00a0\u00bb was never in the top 10, either in the U.S. or worldwide. But this summer was first and foremost one of disappointment for American blockbusters (Fast X; Transformers; The Flash; Indiana Jones; Elemental; Mission Impossible), the blame being first their staggering budgets, then a certain degree of formula fatigue, and most likely a number of other factors. But the fact remains that the big favorites weren&rsquo;t where you&rsquo;d expect them to be this summer. So, that&rsquo;s the context when \u201cBarbie\u201d and \u201cOppenheimer\u201d were released, only a week after the release of \u201cDead Reckoning\u201d, which then lost all its <em>IMAX<\/em> and <em>DOLBY<\/em> screenings.<\/p><p>Obviously, the pink doll got off to a better start than the father of the atomic bomb, benefiting from its huge fame, bigger headlining star, more affordable running time (2h vs. 3h), more accessible rating (PG-13 vs. R-rated), probably wider interest and a friendly tone more in line with traditional summer entertainment. But the two films did blow away forecasts and, as a pair, achieved Hollywood&rsquo;s best weekend in a very long time (4<sup>th<\/sup> best aggregate box-office in history). Since then, \u201cBarbie\u201d has taken the lead and broken records one by one, becoming the best solo female-directed film (still behind \u201cFrozen 2\u201d if you count co-directions) ahead of \u201cCaptain Marvel\u201d. It is also on track to become the most successful film in <em>Warner<\/em> studio history, currently just behind \u201cHarry Potter 8\u201d (somewhat making up for the recent setbacks of the <em>DC<\/em> movies). \u201cOppenheimer\u201d, by the way, Nolan&rsquo;s first film after his departure from <em>Warner<\/em>, achieves the astonishing box-office record ($757M) without ever having been No. 1 in the weekly chart, due to its concomitant release with \u201cBarbie\u201d, from which it both suffered and benefited.<\/p><p>Quite simply, the latter is unquestionably the summer&rsquo;s biggest hit and is well on its way to becoming the top grossing film of the year! All it has left to do is beat \u201cSuper Mario Bros.\u201d and its $1.36 billion worldwide gross, which should be done by next week. The Mattel doll is currently racking up a total of $1.34 billion in worldwide ticket sales (currently 3<sup>rd<\/sup> in France, with already 5 million admissions), and could well take and hold the throne until the end of the year. Indeed, after the failures of the summer blockbusters, the competition \u201cBarbie\u201d will be facing is limited (unless huge surprise) with \u201cAquaman 2\u201d (but at the moment <em>DC<\/em> is rather sinking straight to its Atlantis), \u201cThe Marvels\u201d (the first \u201cCaptain Marvel\u201d did already cross the billion dollar mark), and \u201cDune: Part II\u201d (the first was nowhere near these figures, but suffered from COVID and <em>Warner<\/em>&lsquo;s day-and-date release strategy, so it&rsquo;s hard to estimate how many people will actually watch this eagerly-awaited sequel?). \u201cBarbie\u201d therefore seems to have really turned, if not the real world, rather the Hollywood one and its summer hits upside down&#8230;<\/p><p>Rapha\u00ebl
