Cela fait maintenant, des ann\u00e9es que les artistes f\u00e9minines ont travaill\u00e9 sur la r\u00e9appropriation du corps des femmes, et si le regard sur la sexualit\u00e9 f\u00e9minine et leur corps a \u00e9volu\u00e9 \u2013 y compris par le cin\u00e9ma, que ce soit via Agn\u00e8s Varda et son choix de le montrer en entier et de le regarder, ou plus r\u00e9cemment via C\u00e9line Sciamma qui nous emmenait \u00e0 travers le regard de la femme \u2013 mettre le plaisir f\u00e9minin \u00e0 l\u2019honneur reste bel et bien un enjeu d\u2019actualit\u00e9 dans l\u2019art, et dans l\u2019art fran\u00e7ais. C\u2019est donc l\u2019objectif que se sont donn\u00e9 la sc\u00e9nariste Rebecca Zlotowski (Grand Central\u00a0; Les enfants des autres) et la r\u00e9alisatrice Audrey Diwan (r\u00e9compens\u00e9e d\u2019un Lion d\u2019Or pour son pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent film \u00ab\u00a0L\u2019\u00e9v\u00e8nement\u00a0\u00bb) dans leur nouveau film o\u00f9 la transgression ne passe plus par le fait de montrer mais par celui de convoquer l\u2019imaginaire.<\/p><p>Leur film part alors d\u2019une bonne id\u00e9e audacieuse et provocatrice\u00a0: plut\u00f4t que d\u2019\u00e9crire un tel r\u00e9cit, adaptons plut\u00f4t un c\u00e9l\u00e8bre film \u00e9rotique cr\u00e9\u00e9 par les hommes et pour les hommes, pour s\u2019approprier leur figure cin\u00e9matographique de la femme. Le \u00ab\u00a0Emmanuelle\u00a0\u00bb de 2024 prend donc le contre-pied de la version de 1974 et change de perspective en ne faisant plus d\u2019Emmanuelle un objet mais bien le sujet de son histoire. Il renverse la donne et c\u2019est ici l\u2019homme qui est l\u2019objet de fantasme dans ce voyage int\u00e9rieur sur l\u2019univers myst\u00e9rieux du d\u00e9sir.<\/p><p>Le pari, c\u2019est de faire un film \u00e9rotique et mental qui temporise. Cela implique de se faire sensuel sans \u00eatre n\u00e9cessairement charnel, mais aussi l\u2019art de la suggestion et de l\u2019attente, ainsi qu\u2019une lente progression vers un contr\u00f4le du d\u00e9sir assouvi. \u00ab\u00a0Emmanuelle\u00a0\u00bb s\u2019ouvre ainsi sur sa protagoniste cherchant le plaisir dans une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de surconsommation avec une premi\u00e8re sc\u00e8ne de sexe silencieuse o\u00f9 elle reste impassible et froide. Progressivement ce corps fig\u00e9 va se lib\u00e9rer, et le blocage de la protagoniste va se dissiper \u00e0 mesure qu\u2019elle fr\u00f4le ses d\u00e9sirs, s\u2019en d\u00e9tache, et surtout qu\u2019elle est \u00e9cout\u00e9e. Cette transformation est lisible sur le visage d\u2019une No\u00e9mie Merlant aussi \u00e0 l\u2019aise dans l\u2019autorit\u00e9 que dans la s\u00e9duction.<\/p><p>Cette progression personnelle de la protagoniste se fait qui plus est en parall\u00e8le avec sa progression professionnelle en tant que responsable du contr\u00f4le qualit\u00e9 o\u00f9 elle d\u00e9barque dans un h\u00f4tel de luxe \u00e0 Hong-Kong avec son regard d\u2019acier, scrutant la moindre erreur, le moindre d\u00e9tail, et cherchant \u00e0 tout maximiser. C\u2019est donc un film construit autour d\u2019un sujet th\u00e9orique int\u00e9ressant et d\u2019une tr\u00e8s bonne trame narrative, mais pourtant il semble manquer quelque chose, non\u00a0? Serait-ce d\u00fb justement \u00e0 cet art de l\u2019attente que cherche \u00e0 transmettre le film\u00a0? Ou plut\u00f4t \u00e0 un manque d\u2019intrigue\u00a0? Car le vrai probl\u00e8me r\u00e9side plut\u00f4t-l\u00e0, dans l\u2019intrigue elle-m\u00eame, celle autour du contr\u00f4le qualit\u00e9 et du management de l\u2019h\u00f4tel dans le milieu du luxe, celle qui n\u2019est certes que le socle du vrai sujet du film, mais celle qui finalement fait avancer l\u2019histoire. Et malheureusement, celle-ci manque d\u2019enjeux dans la mesure o\u00f9 l\u2019histoire se concentre exclusivement sur Emmanuelle \u2013 ce qui peut se comprendre puisque c\u2019est son personnage-titre \u2013 mais si cela fonctionne pour toute la qu\u00eate personnelle, cela fonctionne moins pour l\u2019intrigue de fond qui porte cette histoire de r\u00e9appropriation du d\u00e9sir.<\/p><p>Un r\u00e9sultat mitig\u00e9 dans l\u2019ensemble donc pour ce film fran\u00e7ais tourn\u00e9 en anglais, mais \u00ab\u00a0Emmanuelle\u00a0\u00bb reste une \u0153uvre qui suit une id\u00e9e clairement \u00e9tablie et propose une vision int\u00e9ressante. Celle-ci est mise en sc\u00e8ne dans une forme d\u2019apesanteur et d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9gance d\u2019un palace feutr\u00e9 au luxe outrancier et d\u00e9connect\u00e9 de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 (y aurait-il ici aussi un message subliminal\u00a0?) au bord de l\u2019image publicitaire (sans jamais y sombrer) et au gr\u00e9 de m\u00e9taphores liquides. Certains y verront un exercice de style envo\u00fbtant, d\u2019autres un \u00e9rotisme trop c\u00e9r\u00e9bral qui ne fait pas na\u00eetre d\u2019\u00e9motions. For years now, female artists have been working on the reclaiming of women&rsquo;s bodies, and while the way we look at women&rsquo;s sexuality and their bodies has evolved \u2013 including through the cinema, whether thanks to Agn\u00e8s Varda and her choice to show it in its totality and look at it, or more recently to C\u00e9line Sciamma who took us through a woman&rsquo;s gaze \u2013 putting feminine pleasure in the spotlight remains a topical issue in art, and in French art at that. This is the goal set by screenwriter Rebecca Zlotowski (Grand Central; Other Peaple\u2019s Children) and director Audrey Diwan (winner of a Lion d&rsquo;Or for her previous film \u201cHappening\u201d) in their new film, in which the transgression lies not in showing anymore, but in summoning the imagination.<\/p><p>The film&rsquo;s premise is a daring and provocative one: rather than write such a story, let&rsquo;s adapt a famous erotic film created by men for men, in order to appropriate their cinematic figure of womanhood. The \u201cEmmanuelle\u201d of 2024 thus takes the opposite tack from the 1974 version, and changes perspective by making Emmanuelle no longer an object but the subject of its story. It flips the tables, making the man the object of fantasy in this inner journey into the mysterious world of desire.<\/p><p>The challenge is to make an erotic and mental film that takes its time. This implies being sensual without necessarily being fleshly, but also the art of suggestion and expectation, as well as a slow progression towards the control of sated desire. \u201cEmmanuelle\u201d then, opens with its protagonist seeking pleasure in a society of overconsumption, with an initial silent sex scene in which she remains impassive and cold. Gradually, this rigid body will free itself, and the protagonist&rsquo;s obstacle will dissolve as she brushes against her desires, breaks away from them and, above all, gets listened to. This transformation can be seen on No\u00e9mie Merlant&rsquo;s face, as much at ease in authority as in seduction.<\/p><p>The protagonist&rsquo;s personal progression takes place in parallel with her professional development as a quality control manager, where she arrives at a luxury hotel in Hong Kong with her steely gaze, scrutinizing the slightest error, the smallest detail, and seeking to maximize everything. It&rsquo;s therefore a film built around an interesting theoretical approach and a very good storyline, but there seems to be something missing, doesn&rsquo;t it? Could this be due to the art of expectation that the film seeks to convey? Or rather a lack of plot? Because the real problem lies there, in the plot itself, the one revolving around quality control and hotel management in the world of luxury, the one that is admittedly only the backdrop to the real subject of the film, but the one that ultimately drives the story forward. And unfortunately, it&rsquo;s lacking in stakes, insofar as the story focuses exclusively on Emmanuelle \u2013 understandably so, since she&rsquo;s the title character \u2013 but if this works for the whole personal quest, it doesn&rsquo;t work nearly as well for the underlying plot that supports this story of reclaiming desire.<\/p><p>Overall, the result is rather lukewarm for this French film shot in English, but \u201cEmmanuelle\u201d remains a work that follows a clearly established idea and offers an interesting vision. The film is staged in the weightless elegance of a hushed palace of outrageous luxury, disconnected from reality (could there be a subliminal message here too?), on the verge of (but never sinking into) advertising imagery and liquid metaphors. Some will see it as a bewitching stylistic feat, others as an overly brainy eroticism that fails to generate any emotion. If the 1974 film sparked a scandal, this new reinterpretation remains divisive, but certainly won&rsquo;t have the same impact on French society.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">Rapha\u00ebl
