Night Shyamalan tourne la page du laborieux \u00ab\u00a0Kock at The Cabine\u00a0\u00bb et explore avec un nouveau souffle la folie humaine. Con\u00e7u comme un (quasi)huis-clos, \u00ab\u00a0Trap\u00a0\u00bb arpente toutes les facettes du cin\u00e9ma de Shyamalan, dont la plus imposante n&rsquo;est autre que la monstruosit\u00e9. Une monstruosit\u00e9 humaine, \u00e0 laquelle il accroche ici une tranche bienvenue d&rsquo;humour noir.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\"><p>Alors qu\u2019il accompagne sa fille pour assister au concert de sa star pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e, Cooper d\u00e9couvre que l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement n\u2019est qu\u2019un pr\u00e9texte \u00e0 quelque chose de plus sombre.<\/p><p>Si le ton et l\u2019ambiance du film nous percutent aussi bien, c\u2019est que le r\u00e9alisateur pose un \u2018r\u00e9cit-concept\u2019 auquel il donne le temps. Empruntant \u00e0 Hitchcock, le r\u00e9alisateur du \u00ab\u00a0Sixi\u00e8me Sens\u00a0\u00bb use d\u2019une technique de r\u00e9alisation simple, mais \u00e0 l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 redoutable. De ses mouvements de cam\u00e9ra panoramiques \u00e0 ses espaces n\u00e9gatifs (le personnage n\u2019occupe qu\u2019une petite part du plan) d\u00e9j\u00e0 utilis\u00e9s dans \u00ab\u00a0Old\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Trap\u00a0\u00bb nous maintient en haleine, conjuguant sa technique de tournage \u00e0 un excellent travail de montage sign\u00e9 Noemi Preiswerk.<\/p><p>Si le film brille par son ambiance, parvenant \u00e0 nous faire oublier ses facilit\u00e9s sc\u00e9naristiques, c\u2019est aussi gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son interpr\u00e8te principal, Josh Hartnett, qui exploite et d\u00e9veloppe son personnage \u00e0 merveille. Un v\u00e9ritable tour de force et de manipulation o\u00f9 le spectateur adopte le point de vue du traqu\u00e9, de la b\u00eate bless\u00e9e, pr\u00eate \u00e0 tout pour s\u2019\u00e9chapper. Le d\u00e9cor r\u00e9unit tous les codes du genre, reprenant au passage toute une m\u00e9canique des concerts de pop stars. La cam\u00e9ra s\u2019avance jusque dans les moindres recoins de cette armature sc\u00e9nique, du stand de goodies jusqu\u2019aux coulisses m\u00e9talliques et b\u00e9tonn\u00e9es. M. Night Shyamalan porte son concept avec un certain tour de force qui malgr\u00e9 une deuxi\u00e8me partie plus laborieuse, maintient le spectateur en haleine. Night Shyamalan moves away from the disappointing \u201cKock at The Cabin\u201d and delves into human madness with a fresh approach. Designed as a (quasi) closed-door setting, \u201cTrap\u201d explores all the aspects of Shyamalan&rsquo;s style, the most striking of which is monstrosity. It&rsquo;s a human monstrosity, to which he adds a refreshing touch of dark humor.<\/p><p>Accompanying his daughter to a concert of her favorite pop star, Cooper discovers that the event is just a cover for something much more sinister.<\/p><p>If the tone and mood of the film resonate so well, it&rsquo;s because the director sets out a &lsquo;high concept\u2019 story to which he gives time. Drawing on Hitchcock, the director of \u201cThe Sixth Sense\u201d uses a simple yet highly effective directing approach. From its panoramic camera movements to its negative spaces (the character takes up only a small part of the shot) already used in \u201cOld\u201d, \u201cTrap\u201d keeps us on our toes, combining its shooting technique with excellent editing by Noemi Preiswerk.<\/p><p>The film does have a few easy plot devices but they get quickly overlooked thanks to the brilliant atmosphere it sets and also to its lead actor, Josh Hartnett, who gives life and develops his character wonderfully. This is a real trick of manipulation in which the viewer takes the point of view of the hunted, the wounded beast, desperate to escape. The set combines all the codes of the genre, echoing the elements of pop star concerts. The camera moves into every corner of this stage framework, from the goodie stand to the steel and concrete backstage area. M. Night Shyamalan brings his concept to life with great skill, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats despite a more laborious second half.
