Cours d\u00e9multipli\u00e9 \u00e0 tous publics, \u00e9tudiants de facult\u00e9, associations de quartiers populaires, le prof, disciple et meilleur \u00e9l\u00e8ve du patron disparu, court partout et tout le temps, pour subvenir aux besoins de sa femme, elle-m\u00eame avocate militante engag\u00e9e aupr\u00e8s des ouvriers menac\u00e9s de licenciement, et r\u00e9pondre aux r\u00eaves d\u2019un fils qui souffre avec sagesse d\u2019un p\u00e8re trop souvent absent ou distrait. Soudain, le prof de philo se retrouve, pour succ\u00e9der \u00e0 son mentor, mis en concurrence avec un ancien coll\u00e8gue, de retour d\u2019une carri\u00e8re europ\u00e9enne et caricature du fanfaron narcissique, beau parleur dou\u00e9 de tous les d\u00e9fauts d\u2019un s\u00e9ducteur plus m\u00e9diatique qu\u2019acad\u00e9mique.<\/p><p>On rit certes d\u2019embl\u00e9e des m\u00e9saventures qui arrivent au premier, avec ses coll\u00e8gues comme dans sa famille, comme l\u2019on s\u2019agace tr\u00e8s vite de l\u2019opportunisme du second.\u00a0 Mais peu \u00e0 peu, ce film politique \u2013 qui traite d\u2019un sujet rarement abord\u00e9 au cin\u00e9ma, Rousseau, Platon, H\u00e9raclite ou Kant incarnant les enjeux d\u2019une \u00e9volution de l\u2019Argentine d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui \u2013 souffre d\u2019un militantisme trop binaire pour \u00eatre cr\u00e9dible. Comme s\u2019il n\u2019y avait aucune autre issue \u00e0 l\u2019alternative qu\u2019impose le syst\u00e8me en vigueur, entre l\u2019escroc intellectuel, manipulateur et usurpateur et le disciple sinc\u00e8re, philosophe engag\u00e9, vou\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chec.<\/p><p>La question de savoir lequel a le profil convenu et lequel va perdre la face, aurait pu \u00eatre un bel enjeu dramatique, comme le sugg\u00e8re l\u2019une des rares sc\u00e8nes o\u00f9 le dialogue entre la veuve du mentor et le disciple, appel\u00e9 \u00e0 sortir de l\u2019ombre, semble ouvrir le champ-contrechamp \u00e0 une autre perspective. Mais le film ne tient pas ses promesses, m\u00eame si la prestation des deux acteurs principaux l\u2019aurait m\u00e9rit\u00e9, Marcelo Subiotto et Leonardo Sbaraglia, de m\u00eame que celle des seconds r\u00f4les f\u00e9minins eux aussi bienvenus, jou\u00e9s par Julieta Zylberberg et Alejandra Flechner.<\/p><p>Ce n\u2019est pas grandiose comme l\u2019intimit\u00e9 parfaitement \u00e9crite et sc\u00e9naris\u00e9e par Juan Jos\u00e9 Campanella de l\u2019Argentine de la dictature dans \u00ab\u00a0Dans ses Yeux\u00a0\u00bb, ni subtil de l\u2019Argentine aux prises avec l\u2019ogre des Etats-Unis dans \u00ab\u00a0El Presidente\u00a0\u00bb de Santiago Mitre, ou encore le lib\u00e9ralisme sans vergogne plus vuln\u00e9rable qu\u2019il n\u2019y para\u00eet de Fernando Le\u00f3n de Aranoa dans \u00ab\u00a0El Buen Patr\u00f3n\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p><p>Tourn\u00e9 juste avant l\u2019acc\u00e8s au pouvoir du populisme saccageur de Javier Milei et de son directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du <em>CNC<\/em> national, qui se vantait de n\u2019avoir jamais lu un livre ni vu un film avant d\u2019acc\u00e9der \u00e0 ce nouveau poste de comp\u00e9tence, \u00ab\u00a0<em>El Profesor\u00a0\u00bb<\/em> (second film de la r\u00e9alisatrice et quatri\u00e8me de son cor\u00e9alisateur) nous fait r\u00eaver d\u2019une nouvelle vague du cin\u00e9ma argentin qui a encore un beau travail qui l\u2019attend\u00a0!<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">Christian Sallenave<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42480e6 elementor-widget__width-initial exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"42480e6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\"><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>{English below &amp; Espa\u00f1ol al final}<\/strong><\/p><p>The sudden death, while jogging, of a renowned professor at Buenos Aires&rsquo; most prestigious university, the heart of revolutionary student movements, heralds, from the very first panning shot, a promising film about university life and the ups and downs of a philosophy chair, suddenly orphaned by the death of its titular academic.<\/p><p>What may appear at first glance to be a satirical slice-of-life film, reveals the precarious life of a teacher in a university and a country whose prosperity seems rather compromised. The teacher, a disciple and best pupil of the late mentor, runs around all the time to provide for his wife, herself an activist lawyer working for workers threatened with lay-offs, and to fulfill the dreams of a son who suffers wisely from a father who is too often away or distracted. Suddenly, the philosophy teacher finds himself competing to succeed his mentor with a former colleague, back from a European career and a caricature of the narcissistic blowhard, a hot talker with all the flaws of a charmer more media-friendly than academic.<\/p><p>We laugh at the mishaps that befall the former, both with his colleagues and his family, just as we quickly become annoyed by the latter&rsquo;s opportunistic nature.\u00a0 But little by little, this political film \u2013 which deals with a subject rarely tackled in cinema, with Rousseau, Plato, Heraclitus or Kant embodying the issues at stake in the evolution of today&rsquo;s Argentina \u2013 suffers from a militancy too binary to be convincing. As if there were no other way out of the alternative dictated by the current system, between the intellectual con man, manipulator and usurper, and the sincere disciple, committed philosopher, doomed to failure.<\/p><p>The question of which one has the right profile and which one is going to lose out, could have been a fine dramatic issue, as suggested by one of the rare scenes where the dialogue between the mentor&rsquo;s widow and the disciple, called upon to emerge from the shadows, seems to open up to another perspective. But the film doesn&rsquo;t live up to its promise, even though the performances of the two lead actors, Marcelo Subiotto and Leonardo Sbaraglia, are well up to the task, as are those of the equally talented supporting actresses, Julieta Zylberberg and Alejandra Flechner.<\/p><p>It&rsquo;s not as impressive as Juan Jos\u00e9 Campanella&rsquo;s perfectly written and scripted intimate portrayal of Argentina under dictatorship in \u201cThe Secret in their Eyes\u201d, or as subtle as Santiago Mitre&rsquo;s Argentina grappling with the United States&rsquo; ogre in \u201cThe Summit\u201d, or Fernando Le\u00f3n de Aranoa&rsquo;s more shamelessly vulnerable liberalism in \u201cThe Good Boss\u201d.<\/p><p>Shot right before Javier Milei&rsquo;s destructive populism came to power and his director general of the national cinema agency, who claimed never to have read a book or seen a film before assuming his new position, \u201cPuan\u201d (the directors\u2019 second and fourth film respectively) makes us dream of a rising generation of Argentinian filmmakers who still have their hands full!<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">Christian Sallenave<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\"><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>ESPA\u00d1OL<\/strong><\/p><p>La s\u00fabita muerte mientras hac\u00eda footing de un eminente profesor de la universidad m\u00e1s prestigiosa de Buenos Aires, el epicentro de los movimientos estudiantiles revolucionarios, augura una prometedora pel\u00edcula sobre la vida universitaria y los avatares de una c\u00e1tedra de filosof\u00eda, s\u00fabitamente hu\u00e9rfana por la muerte de su profesor titular.<\/p><p>Lo que en principio puede parecer una pel\u00edcula sat\u00edrica de sketches muestra la precaria vida de un profesor en una universidad y un pa\u00eds cuya prosperidad parece bastante comprometida. El profesor, disc\u00edpulo y mejor alumno del difunto profesor titular, no cesa de correr para proveer a su mujer, jurista militante al servicio de los trabajadores amenazados de despido, y cumplir los sue\u00f1os de un hijo que sufre sabiamente a un padre demasiado a menudo ausente o distra\u00eddo. De repente, el profesor de filosof\u00eda se encuentra compitiendo para suceder a su mentor con un ex colega que acaba de regresar de una carrera europea y es una caricatura del narcisista arrogante, un fanfarr\u00f3n con todos los defectos de un seductor m\u00e1s medi\u00e1tico que acad\u00e9mico.<\/p><p>Es cierto que, desde el principio, nos re\u00edmos de las desventuras que le ocurren al primero, tanto con sus colegas como con su familia, del mismo modo que nos fastidiamos r\u00e1pidamente por el oportunismo del segundo.\u00a0 Pero poco a poco, esta pel\u00edcula pol\u00edtica \u2013 que trata de un tema raramente abordado en el cine, con Rousseau, Plat\u00f3n, Her\u00e1clito y Kant encarnando lo que est\u00e1 en juego en la evoluci\u00f3n de la Argentina actual \u2013 sufre de una militancia demasiado binaria para ser veros\u00edmil.
