Tr\u00e8s dou\u00e9 pour faire monter la tension, le r\u00e9alisateur dano-su\u00e9dois signe un polar carc\u00e9ral froid, noir et anxiog\u00e8ne qui interroge l\u2019(im)possibilit\u00e9 du deuil et du pardon. C\u2019est un double portrait de deux \u00e2mes esseul\u00e9es en qu\u00eate de r\u00e9demption : l\u2019une est gardienne de prison dans une unit\u00e9 tranquille o\u00f9 elle y a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 une relation presque maternelle avec ses d\u00e9tenus, l\u2019autre est un condamn\u00e9 pour meurtre envoy\u00e9 en unit\u00e9 de haute s\u00e9curit\u00e9. Quand Eva voit Mikkel arriver parmi les nouveaux prisonniers, elle le reconna\u00eet et demande au m\u00e9pris du conflit d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat sa mutation dans son unit\u00e9. Quels sont donc leurs liens ? Pourquoi cherche-t-elle \u00e0 le voir ? Et lequel des deux manipule-t-il vraiment l\u2019autre ?<\/p><p>Ce transfert s\u2019apparente au voyage psychologique d\u2019Eva dont on suit le point de vue tout du long, de l\u2019image de la bont\u00e9 \u00e0 celle du monstre, elle se transforme pour finir sur une sc\u00e8ne de confrontation tel un tableau o\u00f9 le trio attabl\u00e9 semble prisonnier de ses souffrances. Aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de Sebastian Bull (\u00e0 la fois tr\u00e8s masculin tout en gardant un air d\u2019enfant) et de Dar Salim (en chef d\u2019unit\u00e9), le film est port\u00e9 par l\u2019excellente performance de Sidse Babett Knudsen (Borgen ; La Fille de Brest) pour qui le sc\u00e9nario a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9crit et pour une fois dans un r\u00f4le tr\u00e8s sombre de personnage tortur\u00e9. Avec une \u00e9conomie de geste et d\u2019expression et un visage insondable, elle transmet la souffrance, le vide et les contradictions de ce personnage hant\u00e9 et d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9.<\/p><p>La r\u00e9alisation particuli\u00e8rement bien pens\u00e9e de ce film m\u00ealant \u00e9tude de personnage et thriller enrichit grandement le r\u00e9cit avec une atmosph\u00e8re oppressante et enferm\u00e9e entre les murs de cette prison qu\u2019on ne quitte quasiment jamais (\u00e0 l\u2019image du protagoniste qui se donne corps et \u00e2me \u00e0 son travail, ce qui prendra progressivement tout son sens). Gustav M\u00f6ller et son chef op\u00e9rateur Jasper Spanning ont ainsi choisi un cadre serr\u00e9 en 4\/3 nous enfermant dans ce lieu et avec ses personnages, soit via des gros plans qui prennent tout le cadre, soit par la claustrophobie des sc\u00e8nes de corridors, ou encore avec les ouvertures verticales des pi\u00e8ces (le tout renforc\u00e9 par un tr\u00e8s bon montage son). Ces choix de mise en sc\u00e8ne conf\u00e8rent au film un sentiment \u00e0 la fois d\u2019intimit\u00e9 semi-secr\u00e8te tout en restant confin\u00e9 dans un espace st\u00e9rile et \u00e9crasant.<\/p><p>Bien que le dernier acte n\u2019exploite pas \u00e0 mon sens tout son d\u00e9veloppement potentiel, \u00ab\u00a0Sons\u00a0\u00bb reste un film tr\u00e8s fort, captivant, tr\u00e8s bien jou\u00e9 et magnifiquement mis en sc\u00e8ne. The Danish-Swedish director&rsquo;s talent for building tension makes for a cold, dark, anxiety-inducing prison thriller that questions the (im)possibility of mourning and forgiveness. It&rsquo;s a double portrait of two lonely souls in search of redemption: one is a prison guard in a quiet unit where she has developed an almost maternal relationship with her inmates, the other is a convicted murderer sent to a high-security cell. When Eva sees Mikkel among the new prisoners, she recognizes him and, despite the conflict of interest, requests her transfer to his unit. But what&rsquo;s their connection? Why does she want to see him? And which of them is really controlling the other?<\/p><p>This transfer is akin to Eva&rsquo;s psychological journey, as we follow her point of view throughout, from goodness to monster, as she transforms herself and ends up in a tableau-like confrontation scene in which the trio at the table seem trapped by their own suffering. Alongside Sebastian Bull (at once very masculine yet childlike) and Dar Salim (as the unit leader), the film is driven by the excellent performance of Sidse Babett Knudsen (Borgen; Westworld), for whom the screenplay was specifically written, and for once in a very dark role as a tormented character. With few gestures and expressions, and an unfathomable face, she conveys the suffering, emptiness and contradictions of this haunted, desperate character.<\/p><p>The particularly well-thought-out direction of this film, which blends character study and thriller, greatly enriches the narrative, with an oppressive, locked-in environment within the walls of this prison that we almost never leave (like the protagonist, who gives her heart and soul to her work, which will gradually take on its full significance). Gustav M\u00f6ller and his cinematographer Jasper Spanning chose a tight 4:3 frame, enclosing us in this place and with its characters, either through close-ups that take up the whole frame, or through the claustrophobia of the corridor scenes, or with the vertical openings of the rooms (all enhanced by great sound design). These directorial choices give the film a feeling of semi-secret intimacy, while remaining trapped in a sterile, overwhelming space.<\/p><p>Although the final act does not, in my opinion, fully explore its potential, \u201cSons\u201d remains a very strong, captivating film, very well acted and brilliantly staged. Another great success for this Scandinavian director, who will shortly be moving on to his first American film &#8230;<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">Rapha\u00ebl Sallenave<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section
