Avec \u00ab\u00a0Oppenheimer\u00a0\u00bb le temps est cette fois fusionn\u00e9 avec une intrigue nous plongeant dans l\u2019Histoire de l\u2019Humanit\u00e9 \u00e0 travers le bouleversement profond que devint la bombe atomique. Innovant \u00e0 chaque projet, le cin\u00e9aste britannique s\u2019attaque ici \u00e0 un nouveau genre dans sa filmographie, le biopic, en adaptant le roman \u00ab\u00a0American Prometheus\u00a0: The Triumph of J. Robert Oppenheimer\u00a0\u00bb. Le ma\u00eetre du blockbuster d\u2019auteur r\u00e9ussit un biopic aussi subtil qu\u2019incarn\u00e9 et transcende les codes du genre avec une \u0153uvre \u00e0 la fois portrait intime, film de proc\u00e8s, et thriller \u00e0 suspense. C\u2019est une \u0153uvre qui respecte son public et participe au retour \u00e0 des salles combl\u00e9es par cet \u00e9v\u00e9nement dit du \u2018Barbenheimmer\u2019. C\u2019est tout simplement l\u2019un des films les plus impressionnants de l\u2019ann\u00e9e\u00a0!<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0Oppenheimer\u00a0\u00bb est une \u00e9pop\u00e9e visc\u00e9rale. Le but est bien s\u00fbr de raconter l\u2019histoire de la bombe mais aussi d\u2019exp\u00e9rimenter le retentissement de cette cr\u00e9ation \u00e0 travers le temps. Il confronte l\u2019homme \u00e0 une puissance qui le d\u00e9passe \u00e0 l\u2019image d\u2019un poster aux antipodes du biopic classique o\u00f9 la cr\u00e9ation du protagoniste l\u2019\u00e9crase de plusieurs m\u00e9gatonnes. C\u2019est une trag\u00e9die \u00e9voquant deux fissions, une atomique et une personnelle, qui donnent naissance \u00e0 une cr\u00e9ation au service de la destruction. Une cr\u00e9ation qui fait en m\u00eame temps avancer l\u2019Humanit\u00e9 tout en lui donnant le moyen de s\u2019\u00e9teindre. En cela, le film est une palpitante \u00e9tude de personnage qui examine les dilemmes moraux et nous embarque dans un p\u00e9riple au c\u0153ur de l\u2019ambition et de la culpabilit\u00e9 humaines. A travers l\u2019histoire d\u2019un homme, Nolan livre aussi un commentaire social, un pamphlet \u00e0 charge contre les Etats-Unis et une r\u00e9flexion sur la naissance d\u2019une \u00e8re terrifiante. Elle nous plonge dans l\u2019esprit du scientifique \u00e0 travers ses souvenirs, ses hallucinations, son imagination ou ses traumas mis en images notamment dans une sc\u00e8ne de sexe fantasm\u00e9e, un bombardement cauchemard\u00e9 ou dans des d\u00e9cors tremblants. A travers les efforts scientifiques pour concevoir l\u2019arme ultime, Nolan d\u00e9crit l\u2019implosion de son cr\u00e9ateur. Oppenheimer est le film. Tous les personnages secondaires ainsi que les spectateurs l\u2019accompagnent ainsi dans son p\u00e9riple scientifique et moral. C\u2019est dans cette optique que Nolan a \u00e9crit le sc\u00e9nario \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re personne tel une v\u00e9ritable immersion dans le personnage qu\u2019incarne brillamment Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders). L\u2019acteur irlandais habite son r\u00f4le et porte v\u00e9ritablement le film aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s d\u2019un Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) r\u00e9incarn\u00e9 et d\u2019un Matt Damon (Jason Bourne) promu g\u00e9n\u00e9ral.<\/p><p>Pour son premier film chez <em>Universal<\/em> \u2013 apr\u00e8s avoir quitt\u00e9 <em>Warner<\/em> suite \u00e0 leur politique d\u00e9sastreuse durant la pand\u00e9mie \u2013 Nolan signe une \u0153uvre ambitieuse tourn\u00e9e en IMAX 70mm et ayant n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de tout simplement inventer une pellicule IMAX en noir et blanc. Il s\u2019oblige \u00e0 tourner l\u2019int\u00e9gralit\u00e9 des sc\u00e8nes sans avoir recours aux effets sp\u00e9ciaux CGI, et rel\u00e8ve le d\u00e9fi avec son chef-op\u00e9rateur Hoyte von Hoytema de filmer l\u2019intime avec la plus grosse cam\u00e9ra du monde scrutant avec intensit\u00e9 les visages de sa galerie de personnages. Le recours \u00e0 une ribambelle de stars ne tombe pas dans le d\u00e9fil\u00e9 de cam\u00e9os mais au contraire permet de s\u2019approprier rapidement le r\u00e9cit, d\u2019assimiler plus facilement les nombreux personnages d\u2019un sc\u00e9nario dense gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 leurs visages connus\u00a0: Oppenheimer conna\u00eet tous ces personnages, nous sommes dans sa t\u00eate, alors nous aussi, nous les reconnaissons imm\u00e9diatement. Malgr\u00e9 une narration non-lin\u00e9aire sans la moindre indication temporelle ou g\u00e9ographique, l\u2019intrigue reste parfaitement claire refl\u00e9tant l\u2019immense travail de montage de Jennifer Lame. Moins conceptuel que certains de ses pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents, on y retrouve n\u00e9anmoins la patte Nolan avec une dualit\u00e9 des points de vue l\u2019un en couleur et l\u2019autre en N&amp;B. L\u2019un \u00e9tant totalement subjectif quand l\u2019autre est plut\u00f4t objectif, l\u2019un \u00e9tant personnel quand l\u2019autre est plut\u00f4t historique, l\u2019un se concentrant sur Robert Oppenheimer quand l\u2019autre suit Lewis Strauss en miroir. La couleur apporte la fusion quand le N&amp;B provoque la fission d\u2019un monde, celui d\u2019Oppenheimer, mais aussi le n\u00f4tre par extension. Les diff\u00e9rents \u00e9l\u00e9ments de l\u2019intrigue se m\u00ealent ainsi sans discontinuit\u00e9 jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pleinement s\u2019ancrer dans notre pr\u00e9sent et notre futur. Comme \u00e0 son habitude Chris Nolan d\u00e9joue une nouvelle fois les attentes dans ce biopic consacr\u00e9 au p\u00e8re de la bombe atomique, aussi bien sur l\u2019explosion elle-m\u00eame que sur la conclusion. Sachant que la fin de l\u2019histoire (voire de l\u2019Histoire) est connue d\u2019avance, il ne construit pas son suspense sur la r\u00e9ussite scientifique ou le bombardement mais plut\u00f4t sur une interrogation qui a germ\u00e9 chez le spectateur d\u00e8s les premi\u00e8res sc\u00e8nes.<\/p><p>Si la ma\u00eetrise visuelle est assur\u00e9e, le travail sur le son est \u00e9galement remarquable nous faisant frissonner devant un compte \u00e0 rebours et nous bombardant de musiques tout du long pour ne rendre que plus d\u00e9tonants les rares silences. L\u2019\u0153uvre historique et introspective se permet m\u00eame quelques clins d\u2019\u0153il aux spectateurs dans les dialogues sans sortir de la narration mais rappelant qu\u2019il s\u2019agit bien de cin\u00e9ma et soulignant la post\u00e9rit\u00e9 envisag\u00e9e par les personnages. Le r\u00e9alisateur et sc\u00e9nariste de \u00ab\u00a0Inception\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Le Prestige\u00a0\u00bb ou \u00ab\u00a0The Dark Knight\u00a0\u00bb se renouvelle donc avec un nouveau genre, autant que son compositeur Ludwig G\u00f6ransson qui signe une bande-originale accompagnant parfaitement cette fresque captivante trois heures durant. With \u201cOppenheimer\u201d, time is fused with a plot that takes us back into the history of mankind through the profound upheaval wrought by the atomic bomb. Innovating with every project, the British filmmaker here tackles a new genre in his filmography \u2013 the biopic \u2013 by adapting the novel \u201cAmerican Prometheus: The Triumph of J. Robert Oppenheimer\u201d. The master of the auteur blockbuster achieves a biopic as subtle as it is embodied, overcoming the codes of the genre with a piece that is part inner portrait, part trial movie, part suspense thriller. It&rsquo;s a movie that respects its audience, and helps to bring back sold-out cinemas for the &lsquo;Barbenheimmer&rsquo; event. Quite simply, this is one of the most impressive films of the year!<\/p><p>\u201cOppenheimer\u201d is a visceral epic. The aim is, of course, to tell the story behind the bomb, but also to experience the impact of this creation over time. It confronts man with a power that surpasses him, just like the poster, at odds with the conventional biopic, in which the protagonist&rsquo;s creation dwarfs him by several megatons. It&rsquo;s a tragedy depicting two fissions, one atomic and one personal, which give rise to a creation at the service of destruction. A creation that at the same time drives humanity forward and allows it to die out. In this regard, the film is a thrilling character study that examines moral dilemmas and takes us on a journey to the heart of human ambition and guilt. Through the story of one man, Nolan also delivers a social commentary, an indictment of the United States and a look at the birth of a terrifying era. Through the scientific efforts to design the ultimate weapon, Nolan portrays the implosion of its creator. Oppenheimer is the movie. All the supporting characters, as well as the audience, support him on his scientific and moral journey. With this in mind, Nolan wrote the screenplay in the first person, like a real immersion in the character brilliantly played by Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders). The Irish actor embodies his role and truly carries the film, alongside a reincarnated Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) and a Matt Damon (Jason Bourne) promoted to general.<\/p><p>For his first film at <em>Universal<\/em> \u2013 after leaving <em>Warner<\/em> following their disastrous policy during the pandemic \u2013 Nolan delivers an ambitious achievement, shot in 70mm IMAX and requiring the very invention of black-and-white IMAX film. He forces himself to shoot every scene without the use of CGI special effects, and takes up the challenge with his cinematographer Hoyte von Hoytema of filming the intimate with the world&rsquo;s biggest camera, intensely peering into the faces of his roster of characters. The use of a slew of stars doesn&rsquo;t lead to a procession of cameos; instead, it allows us to quickly grasp the story, to more easily digest the many characters of this packed script thanks to their familiar faces: Oppenheimer knows all these characters, and we&rsquo;re in his mind, so we too instantly recognize them. Despite a non-linear narrative without the slightest indication of time or place, the plot remains perfectly clear, reflecting Jennifer Lame&rsquo;s outstanding editing craft. Less conceptual than some of its previous features, this film nonetheless bears the Nolan stamp, with a duality of points of view, one in color and the other in B&amp;W. One is totally subjective, the other rather objective; one personal, the other historical; one focusing on Robert Oppenheimer, the other mirroring Lewis Strauss. Color brings fusion while B&amp;W leads to the fission of a world, Oppenheimer&rsquo;s, and by extension, ours as well. In this way, the different components of the plot merge seamlessly until they are fully rooted in our present and future. As usual, Chris Nolan once again defies expectations in this biopic devoted to the father of the atomic bomb, both as regards to the explosion itself and the conclusion. Knowing that the end of the story (or History, for that matter) is known beforehand, he doesn&rsquo;t build his suspense on the scientific success or the bombing, but rather on a mystery that the viewer has been wondering about from the very first scenes.<\/p><p>If the visual craftsmanship is impressive, the sound design is equally outstanding, giving us chills as we watch a countdown and bombarding us with music all the way through, making the rare silences all the more striking. This historical and introspective tale even includes a few nods to the audience in the dialogues, without departing from the narrative but reminding us that this is indeed cinema, and highlighting the posterity envisioned by the characters. The director and screenwriter of \u201cInception\u201d, \u201cThe Prestige\u201d and \u201cThe Dark Knight\u201d thus reinvents himself with a new genre, as does his composer Ludwig G\u00f6ransson, whose score perfectly suits this captivating three-hour epic. With a particularly breathless final act, and a highly relevant ending, \u201cOppenheimer\u201d concludes with a bang, establishing itself as a work of cinema as rich as it is
