Comment notre Harrison Ford octog\u00e9naire va-t-il bien pouvoir explorer une derni\u00e8re fois de nouvelles contr\u00e9es et vaincre ses fid\u00e8les n\u00e9m\u00e9sis nazis\u00a0? La r\u00e9ponse\u00a0? A la fois en le vieillissant et en le rajeunissant\u00a0\u2026<\/p><p>Premier film de la saga non \u00e9crit par George Lucas et non r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par Steven Spielberg, \u00ab\u00a0Le Cadran de la destin\u00e9e\u00a0\u00bb voit le talentueux James Mangold (Logan\u00a0; Le Mans 66\u00a0; 3h10 pour Yuma) prendre les rennes et r\u00e9ussir \u00e0 poursuivre la tradition des aventures du Pr. Jones avec un film fait d\u2019action, d\u2019humour, de chance et de ruse dans l\u2019enthousiasme habituel de la saga et une certaine dose de nostalgie avec quelques cam\u00e9os et le retour de John Williams pour une derni\u00e8re composition.<\/p><p>On retrouve donc Indy douze ans apr\u00e8s le pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent film, enseignant toujours \u00e0 New-York et sur le point de prendre sa retraite quand tout bascule lors de la visite d\u2019Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge en aventuri\u00e8re malicieuse) \u00e0 la recherche d\u2019un rare artefact, le cadran d\u2019Archim\u00e8de, convoit\u00e9 par un certain J\u00fcrgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen en antagoniste calculateur). Il ressort alors son f\u00e9dora et son blouson de cuir pour une derni\u00e8re vir\u00e9e\u00a0! L\u2019intrigue prend des tournures d\u2019une aventure de Tintin \u00e0 la poursuite d\u2019un McGuffin m\u00ealant efficacement la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 de l\u2019artefact avec les \u00e9l\u00e9ments plus surnaturels de l\u2019intrigue. Situ\u00e9e en 1969, elle utilise de plus le programme spatial am\u00e9ricain pour inclure \u00e0 juste titre les Nazis dans l\u2019\u00e9poque moderne et jouer sur le temps.<\/p><p>Ce cinqui\u00e8me opus s\u2019av\u00e8re en effet d\u00e9di\u00e9 au Temps avec une intrigue vieillissant le h\u00e9ros en vieux solitaire aigri au seuil de la retraite tout en le rajeunissant dans un emballant prologue situ\u00e9 en 1944. Le rajeunissement num\u00e9rique \u00e0 l\u2019intelligence artificielle de <em>Lucasfilm<\/em> s\u2019av\u00e8re tr\u00e8s bien fait et nous plonge dans une fin d\u2019exp\u00e9dition muscl\u00e9e o\u00f9 on a l\u2019impression de d\u00e9couvrir un \u00e9pisode in\u00e9dit sorti tout droit des archives de <em>Paramount<\/em> \u00e0 le voir sauter sur un train, s\u2019\u00e9chapper d\u2019un bombardement, et vaincre toute une compagnie nazie.<\/p><p>L\u2019\u00e2ge et le temps sont donc les th\u00e9matiques centrales de ce film dont le McGuffin qu\u2019est le fameux cadran d\u2019Archim\u00e8de sert d\u2019illusion \u00e0 la tentation de r\u00e9parer le pass\u00e9 quand il faut finalement faire avec et aller de l\u2019avant. Et en tant qu\u2019historien c\u2019est \u00e9galement le Temps qui sert de d\u00e9nouement \u00e0 une intrigue ne l\u2019opposant plus \u00e0 un autre explorateur mais \u00e0 un physicien qui a une confiance totale envers ses math\u00e9matiques mais ne se nourrit pas de l\u2019Histoire humaine comme Indy. Comme dans tous les films de la saga, la poursuite de l\u2019artefact sert une nouvelle fois de pr\u00e9texte pour gagner en relation humaine.<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0Le Cadran de la destin\u00e9e\u00a0\u00bb correspond donc tout \u00e0 fait \u00e0 une aventure d\u2019Indy m\u00eame s\u2019il est vrai qu\u2019elle manque un peu de palpitant ou d\u2019\u00e9nigmes, qu\u2019elle d\u00e9laisse son conflit g\u00e9n\u00e9rationnel, et que ses sc\u00e8nes de poursuites tra\u00eenent un peu. C\u2019est un film l\u00e9g\u00e8rement trop long, mais n\u00e9anmoins bien rythm\u00e9, qui s\u2019impose comme une aventure divertissante, un bon Indiana Jones et une conclusion satisfaisante. How then is our 80-year-old Harrison Ford going to explore one last time uncharted territory, and defeat his devoted Nazi villains? The answer? By both aging and rejuvenating him &#8230;<\/p><p>As the first film in the saga not written by George Lucas and not directed by Steven Spielberg, \u201cThe Dial of Destiny\u201d sees the talented James Mangold (Logan; Ford v Ferrari; 3:10 to Yuma) step in and succeed in carrying on the tradition of Professor Jones&rsquo; adventures with a film made up of action, humor, luck and cunning in the saga&rsquo;s usual upbeat style and a touch of nostalgia with a few cameos and the return of John Williams for one last original score.<\/p><p>Twelve years after the previous film, Indy is still teaching in New York and about to retire, when everything goes wrong with a visit from Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge as a mischievous adventurer) in search of a rare artifact, the Archimedes dial, prized by a certain J\u00fcrgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen as a calculating foe). So, he pulls out his federora and leather jacket for one last ride! The plot takes on the feel of a Tintin adventure in search of a McGuffin, effectively blending the reality of the artifact with the more supernatural elements of the story. Set in 1969, it also uses the American space program to appropriately include the Nazis in modern day and toy with time.<\/p><p>This fifth installment is indeed dedicated to Time, with a plot that ages the hero as a bitter old loner on the verge of retirement, while also bringing him back to youth in a thrilling prologue set in 1944. <em>Lucasfilm<\/em>&lsquo;s artificial intelligence-assisted digital de-ageing turns out to be very well done, and immerses us in a tough expedition ending that feels like an unreleased episode straight out of <em>Paramount<\/em>&lsquo;s archives, as we watch him jump on a train, escape a bombing raid and defeat an entire Nazi company.<\/p><p>Age and time are therefore the central themes of this film, whose McGuffin, the famous Archimedes dial, acts as an illusion of the lure of fixing the past when, in the end, you have to deal with it and move forward. And as a historian, it&rsquo;s also Time that provides the resolution to a plot that no longer pits him against another explorer, but against a physicist who has total confidence in his mathematics, but doesn&rsquo;t draw on human history like Indy. As in all the movies in the saga, the quest for the artifact once again serves as a vehicle for building human relationships.<\/p><p>\u201cThe Dial of Destiny\u201d is therefore a fitting Indy adventure, even if it does lack a little thrill or enigma, forsakes its generational feud, and its chase scenes drag a little. The film is slightly too long, but nevertheless well-paced, and stands out as an entertaining adventure, a good Indiana Jones story and a satisfying conclusion. It&rsquo;s a fitting end, both for the character and for the saga (presumably), which will have a tough box-office quest to overcome with its massive $294M budget and the financial deal between <em>Disney<\/em> and <em>Paramount<\/em>.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><div dir=\"auto\">Rapha\u00ebl
