O\u00f9 nous trouvons-nous\u00a0? Pourquoi les choses sont-elles ainsi\u00a0? On n\u2019en sait rien, les personnages non plus, et ils ne se posent m\u00eame pas ces questions-l\u00e0\u00a0! Personne ne sait en effet qui a construit le silo, ni quand, ni pourquoi. Les habitants de ce refuge souterrain ne savent qu\u2019une seule chose\u00a0: ils ne doivent jamais sortir sous peine de mourir tr\u00e8s rapidement. On ne sait pas quand l\u2019air sera respirable mais une chose est s\u00fbre, ce n\u2019est pas aujourd\u2019hui. Or cela est vrai tous les jours \u2026<\/p><p><em>Apple TV<\/em> nous livre une nouvelle fois un produit de qualit\u00e9 avec cette s\u00e9rie SF dystopique adapt\u00e9e de la trilogie de romans \u00e9ponymes de Hugh Howey mettant en sc\u00e8ne cette humanit\u00e9 qui accepte son existence claustro-tragique sans remettre en question sa r\u00e9alit\u00e9. \u00ab\u00a0Silo\u00a0\u00bb change progressivement de point de vue en nous pr\u00e9sentant ce monde \u00e0 travers les yeux de Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation) et David Oyelowo (Selma) avant de basculer sur sa protagoniste, une ing\u00e9nieure tenace vivant dans les bas-fonds et interpr\u00e9t\u00e9e par Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible\u00a0; Dune).<\/p><p>Ecrite\/supervis\u00e9e par Graham Yost (Speed\u00a0; Justified) et r\u00e9alis\u00e9e par Morten Tyldum (Imitation Game\u00a0; Passengers\u00a0; D\u00e9fendre Jacob) cette nouvelle s\u00e9rie s\u2019impose comme un huis-clos \u00e9touffant et palpitant. Elle maintient la tension et m\u00e9nage le suspense de bout en bout en cultivant un \u00e9pais myst\u00e8re autour de quelques survivants \u00e0 la poursuite de la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 perdue. Tr\u00e8s bien \u00e9crite et construite, avec ses <em>cliffhangers<\/em> rageants et ses r\u00e9v\u00e9lations toutes r\u00e9ussies, elle captive et surprend le spectateur m\u00eame quand une d\u00e9couverte qui lui para\u00eetrait totalement banale dans notre r\u00e9alit\u00e9. C\u2019est la force d\u2019un r\u00e9cit qui embarque son public aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de ses personnages gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un formidable casting (avec \u00e9galement Tim Robbins et Common), mais aussi une mise en sc\u00e8ne travaill\u00e9e nous plongeant dans les sombres ab\u00eemes du silo, une machine \u00e9crasante \u00e0 l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re moite et aux couleurs feutr\u00e9es.<\/p><p>Le rythme est assez lent nous enfermant progressivement sous terre avec ses personnages pour d\u00e9crypter les indices qu\u2019ils collectent. Si le sch\u00e9ma narratif peut parfois para\u00eetre simple (gentils vs m\u00e9chants), \u00ab\u00a0Silo\u00a0\u00bb s\u2019attarde \u00e0 dessiner une galerie de personnages nuanc\u00e9s et prend le temps de d\u00e9velopper leur pass\u00e9. La s\u00e9rie reste \u00e0 hauteur de ses personnages, \u00e9vitant le spectaculaire en se concentrant avant tout sur son intrigue. Celle-ci b\u00e9n\u00e9ficie d\u2019immenses d\u00e9cors et de costumes d\u00e9taill\u00e9s participant \u00e0 la dense construction de ce monde. En effet, la r\u00e9ussite de la s\u00e9rie tient en grande partie \u00e0 la repr\u00e9sentation de cet espace-titre qui fonctionne \u00e0 la fois comme une unit\u00e9 de lieu et comme une m\u00e9taphore.<\/p><p>Hautement symbolique, avec son d\u00e9cor tout en verticalit\u00e9, o\u00f9 les classes ouvri\u00e8res triment au fond et les dirigeants vivent pr\u00e8s de la lumi\u00e8re (d\u2019o\u00f9 l\u2019ascension sociale), \u00ab\u00a0Silo\u00a0\u00bb s\u2019apparente ainsi \u00e0 un \u00ab\u00a0Snowpiercer\u00a0\u00bb vertical interrogeant \u00e0 la fois sur l\u2019intemporalit\u00e9 de la lutte des classes mais aussi sur la dictature de la d\u00e9sinformation. Ce peuple enterr\u00e9 vivant est en effet volontairement laiss\u00e9 dans l\u2019ignorance par un gouvernement primaire et un syst\u00e8me judiciaire r\u00e9pressif. Elle fait du pass\u00e9 un tabou o\u00f9 toute \u2018relique\u2019 est strictement interdite et l\u2019ignorance le seul moyen de survie et de paix. Vaut-il mieux mourir en connaissant la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 ou vivre dans l\u2019ignorance\u00a0? Pourquoi maintenir tout le monde enferm\u00e9\u00a0? \u00ab\u00a0Silo\u00a0\u00bb joue ainsi le mythe de Platon et fait de ses protagonistes les occupants d\u2019une caverne post-apocalyptique.<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0Silo\u00a0\u00bb met ainsi en place un univers dystopique souterrain aux multiples pistes de lecture politiques et m\u00e9taphysiques autour de personnages d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s et intrigants. Where are we? Why are things the way they are? We have no idea, nor do the characters, who don&rsquo;t even ask themselves those questions! No one knows who built the silo, when or why. The residents of this underground shelter know only one thing: they must never leave or they will die very quickly. It&rsquo;s not clear when the air will be breathable, but one thing&rsquo;s for sure: it isn&rsquo;t today. And that&rsquo;s true every day &#8230;<\/p><p><em>Apple TV<\/em> once again delivers a high-quality program with this dystopian sci-fi series adapted from Hugh Howey&rsquo;s \u201cWool\u201d trilogy of novels, featuring a humanity that accepts its tragic, claustrophobic existence without ever questioning its reality. \u201cSilo\u201d gradually switches perspectives, introducing us to this world through the eyes of Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation) and David Oyelowo (Selma), before focusing on its protagonist, a tough, underworld engineer played by Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible; Dune).<\/p><p>Written\/showrunned by Graham Yost (Speed; Justified) and directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game; Passengers; Defending Jacob), this new series stands out as a gripping, suffocating closed-door thriller. It maintains tension and builds suspense from start to finish, fostering a deep sense of mystery around a handful of survivors in search of the lost truth. Very well written and structured, with nail-biting cliffhangers and successful revelations, it captivates and surprises the viewer even when a discovery would seem utterly trivial in our reality. This is the strength of a story that draws its audience in alongside its characters, thanks not only to a wonderful cast (also including Tim Robbins and Common), but also to a carefully crafted staging that brings us down into the dark abyss of the silo, a crushing machine with a muggy atmosphere and muted colors.<\/p><p>The pace is fairly slow, gradually sealing us underground with the characters as they decipher the clues they collect. Although the narrative framework can sometimes seem straightforward (good guys vs. bad guys), \u201cSilo\u201d takes the time to depict a range of nuanced characters and develop their pasts. The series remains true to its characters, avoiding the spectacular and focusing above all on its plot. Yet its huge sets and detailed costumes add to the dense world-building. Indeed, the series&rsquo; success is largely due to the depiction of this titular space, which acts both as a unity of place and as a metaphor.<\/p><p>Highly symbolic, with its vertical setting where the working classes labor at the bottom and the leaders live close to the light (hence the social ascent), \u201cSilo\u201d is like a vertical \u201cSnowpiercer\u201d, questioning both the timelessness of the class struggle and the dictatorship of misinformation. This people buried alive is deliberately kept in the dark by a primitive government and a repressive judicial system. It makes the past a taboo, where all &lsquo;relics&rsquo; are strictly forbidden, and ignorance becomes the only means of survival and peace. Is it better to die knowing the truth, or to live a life of ignorance? Why should everyone be kept locked up? \u201cSilo\u201d toys with Plato&rsquo;s myth, turning its protagonists into the denizens of a post-apocalyptic cave.<\/p><p>\u201cSilo\u201d therefore sets up an underground dystopian world with multiple political and metaphysical interpretations centered around well-developed, intriguing characters.
