Alors qu\u2019ils arrivent \u00e0 leur destination, elle leur traduit du fran\u00e7ais \u00e0 l\u2019espagnol qu\u2019ils sont arriv\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019usine et vont devoir directement signer leur contrat avant de s\u2019installer \u2026 C\u2019est ainsi que s\u2019ouvre ce film social qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois, v\u00e9ritable d\u00e9monstration sur la gestion et l\u2019exploitation de la main-d\u2019\u0153uvre \u00e9trang\u00e8re au Canada. Le pays a en effet conclu une entente diplomatique permettant par exemple aux Philippines de fournir les aides m\u00e9nag\u00e8res et les nourrices aux grandes m\u00e9tropoles alors que le Mexique et le Guatemala offrent quant \u00e0 eux des bras pour travailler dans l\u2019agro-alimentaire.<\/p><p>Cette femme, cette traductrice, ce maillon indispensable entre les travailleurs et la direction devient alors nos yeux, c\u2019est \u00e0 travers son point de vue que l\u2019histoire est racont\u00e9e\u00a0: un point de vue \u2013 comme le n\u00f4tre \u2013 ext\u00e9rieur \u00e0 cette lutte des classes renouvel\u00e9e dans la Vall\u00e9e-du-Richelieu (garde-manger du pays). Car c\u2019est bien de cela qu\u2019il s\u2019agit alors qu\u2019elle fait son travail comme les autres en essayant d\u2019y glisser un peu d\u2019humanit\u00e9 et d\u2019humour quand les travailleurs \u00e9trangers subissent de plein fouet la violence et l\u2019absurdit\u00e9 d\u2019un syst\u00e8me broyeur qui pousse au \u2018Oui\u2019 \u00e0 tout au nom de la promesse d\u2019un quotidien meilleur.<\/p><p>Il y a du Ken Loach ou du St\u00e9phane Briz\u00e9 dans le traitement r\u00e9aliste et poignant de cette fresque sociale. C\u2019est une d\u00e9monstration implacable des rapports de force d\u2019une \u00e9conomie de march\u00e9 qui pervertit les rapports humains \u00e0 toutes les \u00e9chelles pour sombrer dans une terreur manag\u00e9riale et la pure exploitation pour faire baisser les prix d\u2019une distribution la plus large et efficace possible. L\u2019ONU a d\u2019ailleurs \u00e9pingl\u00e9 ce programme d\u2019immigration canadien, le qualifiant de \u201cterreau fertile pour l\u2019esclavage moderne\u201d \u2026<\/p><p>Le sc\u00e9nariste et r\u00e9alisateur Pier-Philippe Chevigny r\u00e9ussit un magnifique drame social pour son premier long-m\u00e9trage tout en ma\u00eetrise. Port\u00e9 par une excellente Ariane Castellanos aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s notamment de Marc-Andr\u00e9 Grondin et Nelson Coronado, son film nous embarque du d\u00e9but \u00e0 la fin gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 sa courte dur\u00e9e (1h30 top chrono), sa cam\u00e9ra port\u00e9e, et ses plans-s\u00e9quences qui renforcent l\u2019immersion aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s des personnages. La longue focale, le format resserr\u00e9 (1\u00a0:37), l\u2019absence de plan d\u2019ensemble, et la palette sombre de sa photographie sont \u00e0 l\u2019image de ce cin\u00e9ma r\u00e9aliste au plus pr\u00e8s des personnages et de leurs pr\u00e9occupations, amplifiant le sentiment d\u2019angoisse d\u00fb au manque d\u2019horizon de ces ouvriers. As they arrive at their destination, she translates from French to Spanish that they have reached the factory and will have to sign their contract directly before settling in&#8230; This is how opens this Quebec social film, a true testament to the management and exploitation of foreign labor in Canada. The country has in fact struck a diplomatic agreement enabling, for example, the Philippines to supply housekeepers and nannies to the major cities, while Mexico and Guatemala provide manpower to work in the food industry.<\/p><p>This woman, this translator, this vital link between workers and management, becomes our eyes, and it&rsquo;s through her point of view that the story unfolds: a point of view \u2013 like our own \u2013 that&rsquo;s outside this revived class struggle in the Richelieu Valley (the country&rsquo;s larder). And that&rsquo;s precisely what it&rsquo;s all about, as she does her job like everyone else, trying to slip in a little humanity and humor when foreign workers bear the full brunt of the violence and absurdity of a crushing system that forces a \u2018Yes\u2019 to everything in the name of the promise of a better day.<\/p><p>This social tale offers a realistic and gripping approach reminiscent of Ken Loach or St\u00e9phane Briz\u00e9. This is a relentless depiction of the power struggles of a market economy that perverts human relationships at every level, sinking into managerial terror and sheer exploitation to drive down prices for the widest, most cost-effective distribution possible. The UN has even decried this Canadian immigration program, calling it \u201cfertile ground for modern slavery\u201d &#8230;<\/p><p>Writer-director Pier-Philippe Chevigny delivers a brilliant social drama for his feature debut. Starring an excellent Ariane Castellanos alongside Marc-Andr\u00e9 Grondin and Nelson Coronado, his film captures us from start to finish, thanks to its short runtime (1:30 a.m. tops), tight camerawork and long takes that strengthen our immersion alongside the characters. The long focal length, tight aspect ratio (1:37), lack of wide shots, and dark color palette of the cinematography mirror this realistic approach to cinema, bringing us closer to the characters and their preoccupations, thus amplifying the sense of anguish caused by the workers&rsquo; lack of perspective. Together with the film&rsquo;s pace, this oppressive staging creates a constant tension right up to the final shot, bringing this powerful, hard-hitting story full circle.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div
