Un tr\u00e8s agr\u00e9able long-m\u00e9trage sur la plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre des poup\u00e9es qui d\u00e9note et qui d\u00e9tonne, une histoire \u00e0 la crois\u00e9e des codes et des r\u00eaves, un film qui caresse et qui pin\u00e7ouille.<\/p><p>Nous voil\u00e0 ainsi dans le monde de Barbie, o\u00f9 les femmes dominent avec l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9 leur vie parfaite, sans accrochages, ni avec rien, ni avec personne. Mais Barbie St\u00e9r\u00e9otyp\u00e9e (notre pimpante Margot Robbie) commence \u00e0 s\u2019y sentir mal et doit chercher les r\u00e9ponses de cette m\u00e9lancolie nouvelle dans le monde r\u00e9el, en compagnie d\u2019un Ken maladroit et ahuri (notre inimitable Ryan Gosling). Et le monde r\u00e9el r\u00e9v\u00e8le bien des surprises pour Barbie\u2026<\/p><p>Visuellement, le long-m\u00e9trage nous met une gentille claque, en particulier dans le monde de Barbie. Les couleurs flashy, allant du bleu cyan au jaune fluo en passant bien \u00e9videmment par ce rose si caract\u00e9ristique, nous en mettent plein les yeux, et ce dans des d\u00e9cors incroyablement bien pens\u00e9s et construits. Nombreux sont aussi les plans chor\u00e9graphiques o\u00f9 les sc\u00e8nes de danse et de chant comme celles de transition et de dialogue sont m\u00e9ticuleusement travaill\u00e9es pour appara\u00eetre \u00e9tonnamment parfaites.<\/p><p>Le ton du film, aux variations parfois spectaculaires (et enfantines) malgr\u00e9 un fil conducteur relativement clair, est une v\u00e9ritable surprise. \u00ab Barbie \u00bb est une com\u00e9die \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle qui demeure intelligente, avec message militant qu\u2019elle transmet \u00e0 la fois explicitement et subtilement. \u00c0 travers le grotesque, le burlesque voire le ridicule \u2013 signe d\u2019une brillante auto-d\u00e9rision \u2013, l\u2019intrigue joue sur la myriade de clich\u00e9s (et de r\u00e9alit\u00e9s) qui entourent l\u2019univers de Barbie, les questions de genre et m\u00eame le capitalisme ! Le long-m\u00e9trage sait n\u00e9anmoins devenir s\u00e9rieux lorsque les situations et Barbie elle-m\u00eame le deviennent.<\/p><p>Car le film porte avant tout sur l\u2019\u00e9mancipation de son h\u00e9ro\u00efne, \u00e0 la fois ic\u00f4ne et anti mod\u00e8le, dans un monde patriarcal o\u00f9 tout n\u2019est pas rose ni simple pour les femmes et dont les valeurs et symboles \u00e9voluent avec le temps \u2013 monde r\u00e9el que l\u2019on d\u00e9nonce volontiers en le confrontant au monde de Barbie. Une \u00e9mancipation f\u00e9minine et f\u00e9ministe qui se veut aussi religieuse et existentielle lorsque Barbie rencontre sa cr\u00e9atrice. Des tenues bien choisies, aux visages souriants, vivant chaque jour la m\u00eame journ\u00e9e heureuse, tout un artifice pour s\u00e9duire. Un d\u00e9cor choisi, aux couleurs chatoyantes o\u00f9 tout est merveilleux et r\u00e9p\u00e9titif. Voil\u00e0 le monde de Barbie\u00a0! Un monde que l\u2019on propose, que l\u2019on impose \u00e0 nos enfants.<\/p><p>Les anciens usagers de la poup\u00e9e retrouveront certainement avec bonheur cet univers si magique. Un univers impos\u00e9 o\u00f9 Barbie, Margot Robbie, d\u00e9guste une tasse de caf\u00e9 vide, prend une douche sans eau et retrouve ses amies\/amis \u00e0 la plage pour faire la f\u00eate. Sans oublier ses pieds cambr\u00e9s qui auront plus tard une importance capitale. Mais un soir, la vie de Barbie va basculer. Elle se met \u00e0 penser et notamment \u00e0 la mort.<\/p><p>Son quotidien s\u2019en trouve perturb\u00e9 et elle d\u00e9cide de se rendre dans le vrai monde en compagnie de son ami Ken interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 par Ryan Gosling. \u00c0 partir de l\u00e0 tout devrait chavirer\u00a0: Barbie prendrait conscience de sa valeur marchande, de son exploitation et devrait se r\u00e9volter.<\/p><p>Barbie ne revendique rien. Au contraire, elle contribue \u00e0 v\u00e9hiculer une id\u00e9e peu f\u00e9ministe de la femme. Les jolis discours ne passent pas, on n\u2019y croit pas. M\u00eame quand Greta Gerwig montre ce comit\u00e9 de direction de <em>Mattel<\/em>, compos\u00e9 uniquement d\u2019hommes, on navigue toujours.<\/p><p>La r\u00e9alisatrice s\u2019approprie Barbie avec tendresse, nostalgie. Son regard est bienveillant et loin d\u2019\u00eatre critique. Ce n\u2019est pas un film f\u00e9ministe o\u00f9 la femme s\u2019\u00e9mancipe, o\u00f9 elle peut revendiquer sa diff\u00e9rence.<\/p><p>Et Ken quelle place a-t-il\u00a0? Ryan Gosling, beau gosse blond qui n\u2019arrive pas \u00e0 s\u2019affirmer face \u00e0 une Barbie st\u00e9r\u00e9otyp\u00e9e. Il parade, fait le beau. En revanche, son jeu est excellent\u00a0: qu\u2019il danse, qu\u2019il chante qu\u2019il nous fasse rire, sourire et on est attendri. On ne s\u2019ennuie pas dans les sc\u00e8nes hilarantes o\u00f9 se d\u00e9fient Barbie et Ken, o\u00f9 les h\u00e9ros \u00e9voluent sur des musiques \u00e0 la Travolta.<\/p><p>Un point fort, l\u2019ouverture du film. Barbie, splendide femme en maillot de bain, appara\u00eet sur l\u2019ouverture du c\u00e9l\u00e8bre film culte \u00ab\u00a02001\u00a0: L\u2019Odyss\u00e9e de l\u2019Espace\u00a0\u00bb. Sc\u00e8ne impressionnante o\u00f9 Margot Robbie, majestueuse, provocante laissera place \u00e0 une femme fade, toujours presque parfaite et o\u00f9 le rose lui va \u00e0 ravir et o\u00f9 rien ne changera r\u00e9ellement. Un compliment aux costumes qui sont vraiment tr\u00e8s bien \u00e9tudi\u00e9s.<\/p><p>Divertissement bien fait, mais loin des interrogations sur la place des filles et des gar\u00e7ons dans notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9. It&rsquo;s a delightful feature film about the most famous of dolls, a story at the crossroads of codes and dreams, a film that cuddles and pinches.<\/p><p>So here we are in Barbie&rsquo;s world, where women light-heartedly rule their perfect lives, without a hitch with anything or anyone. But Stereotyped Barbie (a dapper Margot Robbie) is beginning to lose it, and must seek the answers to her new-found melancholy in the real world, in the company of a bumbling, bewildered Ken (an inimitable Ryan Gosling). And the real world is full of surprises for Barbie&#8230;<\/p><p>Visually, the film is a real eye-catcher, especially in Barbie&rsquo;s world. The flashy colors, from cyan blue to neon yellow and, of course, that distinctive pink, are stunning, and the sets are incredibly well thought-out and designed. There are also plenty of highly choreographed shots, with song and dance scenes as well as transitions and dialogues meticulously crafted to look astonishingly perfect.<\/p><p>The film&rsquo;s tone, with its sometimes spectacular (and childish) variations despite a relatively clear main thread, is a real surprise. \u201cBarbie\u201d is a large-scale comedy that remains intelligent, with a militant message that it conveys both explicitly and subtly. Through the grotesque, the burlesque and even the ridiculous \u2013 a sign of brilliant self-mockery \u2013 the plot toys with the myriad clich\u00e9s (and realities) surrounding Barbie&rsquo;s world, gender issues and even capitalism! Nevertheless, the film turns serious when the situations and Barbie herself do.<\/p><p>After all, the film is above all about the emancipation of its heroine, both icon and anti-model, in a patriarchal world where everything is neither rosy nor simple for women, and where values and symbols evolve over time \u2013 a real world that is gladly criticized by confronting it with Barbie&rsquo;s world. The emancipation of women and feminism is also religious and existential when Barbie meets her creator. Well-chosen outfits, smiling faces, living the same happy day every day, all the artifice to seduce. A carefully chosen d\u00e9cor, with shimmering colors, where everything is wonderful and repetitive. That&rsquo;s Barbie&rsquo;s world! A world we offer and force on our children.<\/p><p>Former Barbie owners will be delighted to rediscover this magical world. An obligatory world in which Barbie, Margot Robbie, enjoys an empty cup of coffee, takes a shower without water and meets up with her friends at the beach to party. Not forgetting her arched feet, which would later come to play a major role. But one evening, Barbie&rsquo;s life is about to change. She starts to think, and in particular about death.<\/p><p>Her daily life is disrupted, and she decides to go out into the real world with her friend Ken, played by Ryan Gosling. From then on, everything is set to turn upside down: Barbie becomes aware of her market value, of her exploitation, and must rebel.<\/p><p>Barbie makes no claims. On the contrary, she contributes to a hardly feminist idea of women. The pretty speeches just don&rsquo;t ring true. Even when Greta Gerwig shows Mattel&rsquo;s all-male board of directors, we&rsquo;re still left adrift.<\/p><p>The director makes Barbie her own with tenderness and nostalgia. Her approach is benevolent and far from critical. This is not a feminist movie where women are emancipated, where they can assert their difference.<\/p><p>And where does Ken fit into all this? Ryan Gosling, a handsome blond who can&rsquo;t assert himself against a stereotypical Barbie. He just parades and acts pretty. On the other hand, his acting is excellent: he dances, he sings, he makes us laugh, he makes us smile, and we&rsquo;re moved. There&rsquo;s never a dull moment in the hilarious scenes where Barbie and Ken challenge each other, where the heroes move to Travolta-style music.<\/p><p>A highlight is the film&rsquo;s opening. Barbie, a splendid woman in a bathing suit, appears in the opening of the famous cult film \u00ab\u00a02001: A Space Odyssey\u00a0\u00bb. An impressive scene in which Margot Robbie, majestic and provocative, gives way to a bland woman, still almost perfect, where pink suits her to perfection and nothing really changes. Kudos also to the costumes, which are really well thought-out.<\/p><p>It&rsquo;s a well-made piece of entertainment, but it&rsquo;s a long way from questioning the place of girls and boys in our society.
