Si le film s\u2019apparente bien dans son introduction \u00e0 une op\u00e9ration marketing pour le pionnier du simulateur de course ultrar\u00e9aliste, il adapte par la suite une \u00e9tonnante histoire vraie\u00a0: celle d\u2019un jeune gallois qui se voit proposer la chance de devenir un vrai pilote de course gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ses milliers d\u2019heures accumul\u00e9es sur le jeu vid\u00e9o. Nissan a en effet form\u00e9 de fa\u00e7on professionnelle les meilleurs \u2018sim racers\u2019 \u00e0 la GT Academy de 2008 \u00e0 2016. \u00ab\u00a0Gran Turismo\u00a0\u00bb est donc une nouvelle success-story sportive am\u00e9ricaine mettant au d\u00e9fi des joueurs de simulateurs de battre de \u201cvrais\u201d pilotes de courses \u2026<\/p><p>Avec son approche similaire au film \u00ab\u00a0Tetris\u00a0\u00bb sorti r\u00e9cemment, o\u00f9 ce n\u2019est pas l\u2019histoire au sein m\u00eame du jeu vid\u00e9o qui est adapt\u00e9e mais bien une histoire vraie autour de ce jeu, \u00ab\u00a0Gran Turismo\u00a0\u00bb se hisse clairement dans la moyenne haute des films de jeux vid\u00e9o et s\u2019impose comme un divertissement estival efficace et sans pr\u00e9tention. N\u00e9anmoins cette adaptation de jeu vid\u00e9o finalement plus proche du biopic nous embarque autour d\u2019un circuit tout trac\u00e9 o\u00f9 le spectacle qu\u2019il met en sc\u00e8ne n\u2019est ni plus ni moins qu\u2019une succession de clich\u00e9s dans une formule vue et revue totalement pr\u00e9visible.<\/p><p>Le sc\u00e9nario plombe le film autant d\u2019un point de vue r\u00e9aliste que factuel dans la mesure o\u00f9 il s\u2019agit \u00e0 la fois d\u2019un film de course et d\u2019un biopic qui n\u2019est ni cr\u00e9dible sur le pilotage ou les faits de courses ni authentique dans son r\u00e9cit historique. Le fait qu\u2019une histoire vraie soit all\u00e9grement r\u00e9\u00e9crite pour des raisons dramatiques n\u2019est ni nouveau ni probl\u00e9matique, mais \u00e7a l\u2019est quand ces r\u00e9\u00e9critures viennent entacher la coh\u00e9rence m\u00eame de l\u2019intrigue.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10169 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Snapshot_1171.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Snapshot_1171.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Snapshot_1171-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Snapshot_1171-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Snapshot_1171-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>Ces simplifications sc\u00e9naristiques font ainsi sauter des \u00e9tapes au protagoniste ou mettent en sc\u00e8ne une formation exp\u00e9ditive de Nissan contraires aux qualit\u00e9s justement recherch\u00e9es par les pilotes, sans oublier plusieurs crashs impressionnants parfois invent\u00e9s parfois bien r\u00e9els mais sortis du contexte historique pour des soucis de progression narrative. Quant aux courses en elles-m\u00eames, elles ne mettent en valeur ni les tactiques ou strat\u00e9gies indispensables pour gagner, ni le cadre r\u00e9glementaire ou sportif dans lesquels elles se d\u00e9roulent, ni m\u00eame les comp\u00e9tences d\u2019un pilote victorieux, le film pr\u00e9f\u00e9rant pr\u00f4ner la d\u00e9termination et la confiance en soi (certes cruciales) tout du long. C\u2019est donc un film frustrant pour tout fan de sport automobile ou de \u2018sim racing\u2019 tant il ne reproduit ni le \u2018<em>feeling\u2019<\/em> du simulateur ni celui de la voiture de course.<\/p><p>Avec Neill Blomkamp (District 9\u00a0; Elysium) au volant, \u00ab\u00a0Gran Turismo\u00a0\u00bb marque le retour en piste d\u2019un cin\u00e9aste passionnant qui s\u2019est distingu\u00e9 dans le genre dystopique SF et signe ici tr\u00e8s clairement son \u0153uvre la moins riche, une pure commande de studio. Le r\u00e9alisateur sud-afro-canadien oscaris\u00e9 met n\u00e9anmoins ses talents au service d\u2019une belle r\u00e9alisation d\u00e9livrant des s\u00e9quences de courses de qualit\u00e9 tant dans les prises de vue que le montage, des superpositions simulateur\/cockpit qui font la sp\u00e9cificit\u00e9 de ce film, et une belle sc\u00e8ne d\u2019introduction \u00e0 la c\u00e9l\u00e9brissime course des 24H du Mans. Il dirige de plus efficacement Archie Madekwe et Orlando Bloom et peut compter sur David Harbour qui r\u00e9ussit \u00e0 donner r\u00e9ellement vie \u00e0 son personnage d\u2019ing\u00e9nieur course.<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0Gran Turismo\u00a0\u00bb, c\u2019est un divertissement qui plaira au grand public pour ses qualit\u00e9s visuelles et techniques mais frustrera tout fan de courses par ses incoh\u00e9rences \u00e0 chaque virage. While the film&rsquo;s opening is a marketing campaign for the pioneer of the ultra-realistic racing simulator, it goes on to adapt an astonishing true story: that of a young Welshman who is offered the chance to become a real racing driver thanks to the thousands of hours he has logged on the video game. Indeed, Nissan professionally trained the best &lsquo;sim racers&rsquo; at the GT Academy from 2008 to 2016. \u201cGran Turismo\u201d is therefore a new American sports success story challenging simulator players to beat \u00ab\u00a0real\u00a0\u00bb racing drivers &#8230;<\/p><p>With a similar take to the recently-released \u201cTetris\u201d movie, in which the story is adapted not from the video game itself but from a true story based around the game, \u201cGran Turismo\u201d is clearly in the upper echelons of video game movies, and stands out as an enjoyable and unpretentious summer entertainment. Nonetheless, this video game adaptation is closer to a biopic, taking us around a well-trodden path where the show is nothing more than a set of clich\u00e9s in a formula that&rsquo;s been seen over and over again and is totally predictable.<\/p><p>The script undermines the film both realistically and factually, insofar as it is both a racing movie and a biopic that is neither credible in its driving or racing action, nor authentic in its historical account. The fact that a true story can be blithely rewritten for dramatic reasons is neither new nor problematic, but it is when these rewrites mar the very coherence of the plot.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10169 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Snapshot_1171.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Snapshot_1171.png 1500w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Snapshot_1171-300x155.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Snapshot_1171-1024x529.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgproduction.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Snapshot_1171-768x397.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p><p>These script oversimplifications mean that the protagonist often jumps steps, or that Nissan&rsquo;s training is rushed in a way that runs against the very qualities sought after by drivers, not to mention a number of big crashes, some of them invented, some of them quite real, but taken out of the historical context for the sake of narrative progression. As for the races themselves, they don&rsquo;t highlight the tactics and strategies required to win, nor the regulatory or sporting framework in which they take place, nor even the skills of a winning driver, the film instead advocating determination and self-confidence (admittedly crucial) the whole way through. As a result, it&rsquo;s a frustrating film for any fan of motorsport or &lsquo;sim racing&rsquo;, as it doesn&rsquo;t capture the &lsquo;feel&rsquo; of either the simulator or the race car.<\/p><p>With Neill Blomkamp (District 9; Elysium) at the wheel, \u201cGran Turismo\u201d marks the return to the racetrack of a fascinating filmmaker who has made a name for himself in the dystopian sci-fi genre, and here delivers what is clearly his least ambitious work, a pure studio job. Nonetheless, the Oscar-winning South African-Canadian director uses his talents to deliver some fine racing sequences, both in terms of cinematography and editing, with the simulator\/cockpit overlays that make this film so special, and a great introductory scene to the famous 24H du Mans race. He also ably directs Archie Madekwe and Orlando Bloom, and can rely on David Harbour to really bring his racing engineer character to life.<\/p><p>\u201cGran Turismo\u201d is a piece of entertainment that will appeal to the wider audience for its visual and technical qualities, but will frustrate any racing fan with its inconsistencies at every turn.
