The Gentlemen) et ses thrillers d\u2019action tourn\u00e9s au comique dans un savoureux m\u00e9lange d\u2019intrigue dramatique et de ton d\u00e9cal\u00e9 (Code UNCLE\u00a0; Sherlock Holmes). Ses deux derniers films ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 produits par STX, une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 depuis disparue, leur distribution s\u2019en est vue affect\u00e9e et ils ont atterri sur <em>Amazon Prime Video<\/em> en France (alors qu\u2019ils ont pu b\u00e9n\u00e9ficier d\u2019une sortie en salles aux USA). Si son premier de l\u2019ann\u00e9e, \u00ab\u00a0Op\u00e9ration Fortune\u00a0: Ruse de Guerre\u00a0\u00bb s\u2019apparentait plut\u00f4t bien \u00e0 une sortie streaming, celui-ci beaucoup moins tant une sortie en salles aurait clairement enrichi cet excellent film de guerre.<\/p><p>Si son style est habituellement si facilement reconnaissable Guy Ritchie se m\u00e9tamorphose avec ce film de guerre multilingue au r\u00e9alisme et \u00e0 la tension palpables et aux sc\u00e8nes de combat rares et sobres mais authentiques. \u00ab\u00a0The Covenant\u00a0\u00bb met en sc\u00e8ne un sergent-chef de l\u2019arm\u00e9e am\u00e9ricaine d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 en Afghanistan en 2018 et un Afghan affect\u00e9 \u00e0 son unit\u00e9 \u2013 non pas comme traducteur mais bien comme interpr\u00e8te \u2013 dans le cadre des op\u00e9rations de l\u2019OTAN visant \u00e0 d\u00e9loger les Talibans. Guy Ritchie signe un film de guerre de la qualit\u00e9 d\u2019un \u00ab\u00a0American Sniper\u00a0\u00bb dans sa premi\u00e8re partie avant que \u00ab\u00a0The Covenant\u00a0\u00bb ne bascule pour d\u00e9livrer un message de fond plus engag\u00e9. C\u2019est un film de guerre qui porte autant sur l\u2019action que sur la politique surtout \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re du r\u00e9cent retrait pr\u00e9cipit\u00e9 des troupes am\u00e9ricaines d\u2019Afghanistan.<\/p><p>Si la r\u00e9alisation et la bande originale de Christopher Benstead renforce d\u00e9finitivement le film, c\u2019est bien son duo d\u2019acteurs principaux qui le porte. Jake Gyllenhaal se renouvelle autant que son r\u00e9alisateur avec ce r\u00f4le de sous-officier d\u00e9vou\u00e9 envers ses hommes et ses engagements et compl\u00e8te une palette de jeu d\u00e9j\u00e0 tr\u00e8s riche (Brokeback Mountain ; Nightcall ; Prisoners ; La Rage au ventre\u00a0; Jarhead). As his last two films were produced by <em>STX<\/em>, a company that has since disappeared, their distribution was affected, and they landed on Amazon Prime Video in France (although they did get a theatrical release in the US). While his first of the year, \u201cOperation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, was rather well suited to a streaming release, this one is much less so, as a theatrical showing would clearly have greatly embellished this excellent war film.<\/p><p>If his style is usually so easily recognizable Guy Ritchie gets transformed with this multilingual war film of palpable realism and tension, and rare, sober but authentic battle scenes. \u201cThe Covenant\u201d features a U.S. Army Master Sergeant deployed to Afghanistan in 2018 and an Afghan man assigned to his unit \u2013 not as a translator, but rather as an interpreter \u2013 as part of NATO efforts to oust the Taliban. Guy Ritchie delivers a hard-hitting war film of \u201cAmerican Sniper\u201d caliber in its first part, only for \u201cThe Covenant\u201d to switch gears and deliver a more serious message. It&rsquo;s a war film as much driven by action as politics, especially in light of the recent hasty withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.<\/p><p>While the direction and Christopher Benstead&rsquo;s score definitely add to the film&rsquo;s strength, it&rsquo;s the lead acting duo that really brings it to life. Jake Gyllenhaal revitalizes himself as much as his director with this role of a non-commissioned officer devoted to his men and his commitments, and adds to an already rich palette of acting (Brokeback Mountain; Nightcall; Prisoners; La Rage au ventre; Jarhead). As for Dar Salim (Borgen; Hijacking; A War), he delivers a particularly fascinating and charismatic performance, full of silences, in which the Iraqi-born Danish actor conveys a wealth of observations with a simple glance or half-smile.<\/p><p>A captivating, realistic and dedicated war thriller supported by two brilliant acting performances.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r
