Dans « Pig », Michael Sarnoski arpente les dessous du monde de la cuisine au travers d’un Portland déshumanisé. Survient alors au milieu de cette dictature de l’insensibilité le personnage de Rob, sorte de rédempteur culinaire d’un monde en perdition.
Rob ou Robin est un ancien chef réputé de Portland, aujourd’hui chasseur de truffe au cœur de la forêt. Avec sa truie truffière, il chasse les plus belles truffes de la région qu’il vend à Amir un jeune fournisseur en manque de confiance. Une nuit, alors qu’il dort, deux individus enlèvent sa truie, dépossédant Rob de son unique compagnie. Rob débute alors une quête déchainée pour retrouver sa truie. Une quête qui le mènera jusqu’aux profondeurs d’un passé douloureux.
Au-delà d’une progression scénaristique classique et chronologique, le film supplante toute idée préconçue et nous offre un conte humain sensible et puissant habité avec une remarquable profondeur et une touchante sobriété par un sublime Nicolas Cage.
Là où Michael Sarnoski signe un premier film marquant, c’est dans son habileté à ne jamais céder au ridicule contenant son film dans une dramaturgie aussi juste que percutante.
Si le film est construit en plusieurs chapitres qui se réfèrent à un langage culinaire poétique, c’est que « Pig » porte en étendard la cuisine comme force épicurienne d’un monde en proie à un sophisme disgracieux.

In « Pig », Michael Sarnoski explores the underbelly of the culinary world through a dehumanized Portland. In the midst of this dictatorship of insensitivity comes the character of Rob, a sort of culinary redeemer of a world in perdition.
Rob or Robin is a former famous Portland chef, now a truffle hunter in the heart of the forest. With his truffle sow, he hunts for the finest truffles in the region, which he sells to Amir, a young supplier in need of trust. One night, as he sleeps, two individuals kidnap his sow, depriving Rob of his only company. Rob then begins a frantic quest to find his sow. A quest that will lead him to the depths of a painful past.
Beyond a classic and chronological script progression, the film overcomes all preconceived ideas and offers us a sensitive and powerful human tale inhabited with a remarkable depth and a touching sobriety by a sublime Nicolas Cage.
Where Michael Sarnoski signs a first film that stands out is in his ability to never give in to the ridiculous, containing his film in a dramaturgy that is as accurate as it is powerful.
If the film is structured in several chapters that refer to a poetic culinary language, it is because « Pig » carries the banner of cuisine as an epicurean force in a world in prey to a disgraceful sophistry.
