Jusqu’où irez-vous par amour ? Telle est la question que pose ce splendide film disponible sur Apple TV+ mettant en scène dans un avenir proche Cameron, un mari et père de famille, atteint d’une maladie incurable qui ne veut pas accabler son épouse et son fils par son décès. Face à la tentation de se faire cloner pour conserver sa famille, il fait alors face à un dilemme cornélien.
Benjamin Cleary réalise ici une magnifique œuvre de cinéma entre le drame sur la perte de l’autre et le thriller de science-fiction. « Swan Song » est une véritable étude sur l’amour, questionnant au-delà de tout égo quels sacrifices nous serions prêts à faire pour nos êtres chers. Emotionnellement c’est très fort ! Si l’idée de départ sur le remplacement par clonage a déjà été vue, le scénario est ici très intelligent, subtil et avec une importante attention au détail maintenant un certain suspense. L’environnement futuriste dans lequel se déroule l’intrigue y est finement intégré avec un décor soigné et des technologies plausibles sans que le film ne cherche à s’attarder sur l’aspect technique.
Mais à l’image de son affiche, « Swan Song » est aussi un film très esthétique et délicat. L’on retiendra alors la superbe photographie mais surtout l’excellent jeu des acteurs avec Naomie Harris, Glenn Close ou encore Awkwafina aux côtés de l’immense Mahershala Ali qui délivre une nouvelle fois une performance remarquable en donnant naissance à deux interprétations uniques du même personnage.
Malgré une année déjà incroyablement remplie en très beaux films, cette sortie streaming de fin d’année réussit à s’imposer comme l’une des plus belles œuvres de l’année. Puissante. Profonde. Et très émouvante.

How far will you go for love? This is the question asked by this wonderful movie available on Apple TV+. In the near future, Cameron, a husband and father, suffering from an incurable disease, refuses to burden his wife and son with his death. Faced with the temptation to clone himself in order to keep his family together, he is faced with a terrible dilemma.
Benjamin Cleary creates a beautiful work of cinema between the drama of loss and the science fiction thriller. “Swan Song” is a true study of love, questioning beyond any ego what sacrifices we would be willing to make for our loved ones. Emotionally it is very intense! If the premise of replacement by cloning has already been seen, the script here is very smart, subtle and with an important attention to detail providing a degree of suspense. The futuristic environment in which the plot takes place is finely set with a neat background and plausible technologies without the film trying to dwell on the technical aspect.
But mirroring its poster, “Swan Song” is also a very aesthetic and delicate film. We shall then highlight the stunning cinematography but especially the excellent performance of the actors with Naomie Harris, Glenn Close, and Awkwafina alongside the brilliant Mahershala Ali who delivers once again a remarkable performance by giving birth to two unique interpretations of the same character.
Despite a year already incredibly full in great films, this end of year streaming release manages to emerge as one of the most beautiful picture of the year. Powerful. Deep. And very moving.
