Joyeux Noël à tous !
Pour l’occasion nous vous proposons une critique succincte du récent moyen-métrage spécial des Studios Marvel sur le Noël des Gardiens de la Galaxie en attendant le troisième et ultime volume de leurs aventures en mai prochain.
Dans la veine des « Holiday Special » (souvent nébuleusement traduit en « Joyeuses Fêtes »), cette célébration de Noël avec les Gardiens met en scène nos protagonistes dans une aventure légère, décalée et comique. Pour son avant-dernier projet Marvel, le nouveau co-directeur des studios DC (c’est quand même une première) James Gunn décide de mettre en avant Mantis et Drax, deux des Gardiens les moins développés dans les précédents films. Ces derniers – toujours joués par la Française Pom Klementieff et l’ex catcheur Dave Bautista – s’associent en effet pour changer les idées d’un Star Lord (Chris Pratt) toujours affecté par la disparition de Gamora. Leur plan consiste alors à kidnapper Kevin Bacon, l’acteur préféré de Star Lord, pour le lui offrir en cadeau.
Si les « Holiday Special » sont souvent plus sympathiques à regarder qu’ils n’enrichissent ou développent réellement l’univers duquel ils sont issus, celui-ci a le mérite de jouer sur les deux tableaux avec un ensemble facile à regarder et drôle, mais apporte également un développement significatif à nos personnages tout en mettant en place le contexte du prochain volet. C’est donc un épisode qui n’est certes pas indispensable au MCU mais reste toutefois agréable et utile. En somme : une réussite.

To mark the day, we’re giving you a quick review of Marvel Studios’ recent Christmas special with the Guardians of the Galaxy in anticipation of their third and final volume of adventures next May.
In true “Holiday Special” fashion, this celebration of Christmas with the Guardians features our protagonists in a lighthearted, offbeat and funny ride. For his penultimate Marvel project, the new co-director of DC Studios (that is a first!) James Gunn chose to focus on Mantis and Drax, two of the least featured Guardians in the previous films. The latter – still played by the Frenchwoman Pom Klementieff and the ex-wrestler Dave Bautista – join forces to change Star Lord’s (Chris Pratt) mind, still affected by Gamora’s absence. Their plan then involves the kidnapping of Kevin Bacon, Star Lord’s favorite actor, to give him as a gift.
If the Holiday Specials are often more fun to watch than they really enrich or develop the universe they belong to, this one manages to have it both ways with an easy to watch and funny package, but also bringing a significant development to our characters while setting the scene for the next installment. It is certainly not an unavoidable episode in the MCU, but it is still pleasant and worthwhile. Bottom line: it’ s a win.
